Installing Brakes

My Bafang front 500 watt kit just came in the other day. It came with two hand brakes that have a wire that plugs into the controller.

Am I supposed to install the electric brake on the left side of the handlebars (for the front brake) or on the right side for the rear brake?

Or am I supposed to install it under the right handlebar brake, so I will have three brakes?

Also, why did the kit come with two brakes?

You replace your existing hand brakes with the new handles. The new ones not only pull the cable to actuate your caliper but also cut power to the motor as well.

Wait... the assumption is you have cable actuated brakes. Right? Either cable Rim brakes or cable Disc brakes.

If you have hydraulic brakes then those eBike brake levers will do you no good.

You'll need to either get a set of motor cut magnets for your hydraulic levers or get new hydraulic levers that have the motor cut built in. And, you'll need to have your brakes bled when you install those. Finally, you could buy an all new set of eBike Hydraulic brakes with built in motor cut features.

I used the magnetic motor cut adapters on my hydraulic brakes and they work fine.

Honestly, I've gone back and forth on letting my brakes cut the motor on my ebike. There is almost no time that I put on the brakes while also actively using the motor in normal riding. And, if you are forced to stop on a hill at an intersection the motor cut makes it more difficult to start if you haven't adequately downshifted before the stop.
