How can I adjust the bike gears and make sure that the gear is correctly placed? The gear switch says it's on 7th gear, but I think the chain is in 1st. I attached to pictures if the gear placement is incorrect, can you tell me how to correct it. Thank you so much

Small sprocket is the higher gear. First gear would be the easiest to pedal.

To avoid confusion:

• Click your gear lever into position #4 (the middle gear).
• Lift your chain onto the middle sprocket (on rear wheel).

Chain is on 7th gear (the hardest to pedal) as the indicator says.

A book on basic bicycle maintenance might be helpful.

Correct. As in a car, the lowest-numbered gear is the easiest, the highest, the hardest.

Thank You, The reason why I asked the question is because I was having some problems changing the gears. The gears don't change as smooth as I want them so I thought the chain was in an incorrect position.

Could be just a derailleur adjustment. The Park Tool website has dozens of how-to videos on bike maintenance, including derailleur adjustment. But probably best for a beginner to let a bike shop handle it.
