Help choosing Ebike

Hello All:

I have been viewing an infinite number of Courts reviews and need help making a decision. To date the only bike I have actually ridden is the Blix Aveny.

I am looking for a city commute bike for errands, buying groceries with the ability to conquer steep hills without a lot of pedal power on my part. It has been seven to ten years since I have been on a bike and will need to build up my pedaling muscles, which at 67 are not what they used to be?.

Currently I am hoping for a bike that will be $2000 or less. The ones i am considering are the Surface Rook, Magnum Metro, Rad City Step-thru, and possibly the Electra Loft Go 8i if the others do not seem like good choices.

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated

With what you describe, pretty much any of those bikes would do the job. A lot of us have bought the Juiced Bikes CrossCurrent S and it would fit your criteria too. Now that they've fixed their distribution problems, I don't have any problem recommending it. Ha ha, I just made your choice harder!

No, seriously, my advice is that if you've compared components -- such as brakes, gears, and especially battery size, get the biggest battery size you can afford -- and they are in the same ball park, get the one that just appeals to you. In the end, that's what I did, and I've been delighted with my choice.

I have purchased both from online sales and a local bike shop. I highly recommend you buy from a LBS for such reasons as set up/tune ups/warranty. Going to a local shop is a heck of a lot easier than tracking down customer service on a phone call or even worse, an email when a problem occurs.

One of the bikes you cited was a Rad City. My personal experience with Rad has been good and their customer service is great. Quality has been good so far (100 miles). I have found with ebikes, you get what you pay for. Dig through the forum for information on the bikes you are considering. There are specific sections for each of those bikes under Discussion by Brand & User Reviews.

Asking for help on choosing will get you a response for what brand each person personally likes. NOTHING will beat riding them. Out of the 5 eBikes I own, only bought 1 without riding it. It took a month to make it comfortable and get used to the motor controller. The other 4 I knew what I was buying since I rode them. You can possibly narrow it down like CodyDog says. Go to "Discussion by Brand & User Reviews", then look at each brand you are considering and look at "Known Issues and Problems". There you will read about poor customer support and repeating issues with the brand. I've never ridden any of those you are asking about, so can't help you there.
