Just joined the forum and learning a bunch. I currently ride a recumbent trike and would like to move to two wheels.
I am old, fat, amputee (LAK), and had a knee replacement. Ride the GAP trail near me.
Looking to buy my first ebike very soon.

I envy your location! I ride the GAP trail 3 or 4 times a year and drive down from the northeast section of PA. IMO, the GAP is the best trail in the northeastern US for length, quality and scenery.

At 74, I'm also old & fat with two hip replacements. I chose a bike with a step thru frame for ease of mounting as well as the necessary weight capacity to carry myself plus my gear. I would also suggest a model with extra battery capacity or a second battery option. That stretch of the GAP from Cumberland up to Big Savage will suck the life out of any battery!

Welcome to the Forum and good luck with your search. There are many knowledgeable folks here to help with any questions you have so don't be afraid to ask!

My favorite right now is Ohiopyle to the Pinkerton tunnel. And I learned not to go there in fall because avoiding walnut with a trike is impossible.

Thanks guys. I didn't know GAP existed. Cumberland MD is not in PA. I could catch the Amtrak from Cincinnati to Harper's Ferry, with my bike, without a car. Then C&O trail to Cumberland & the GAP. Then AMtrak Pittsburg to Chicago and back on Cardinal to Cinci.
I've walked some of the C&O trail around PawPaw when I was in the Army & it was the Western Maryland RR. I could bike to CInci in 2 days, although there are no motels near the halfway point on the back road (direct) . Have to pedal unpowered the 2nd day perhaps. Worst thing about side of the road camping in rural IN is dog packs.

The GAP is a good ride.
Also Pittsburgh has an h.

Be advised that the north access to the Paw Paw Tunnel is closed due to a rock slide at the north portal. The only detour involves packing your bike up a steep trail to Tunnel Hill Rd. I'm not sure about you but it is way beyond my ability. The C&O Trail thru the tunnel is scheduled to reopen in July of 2022.

Ohiopyle to Pinkerton is indeed a great section to ride. I rode it this past April. Whenever I go there, I'm impressed by the "daylighting" project of the CSX tunnel at Pinkerton. They blasted the top off the Pinkerton Horn and made one of the largest rock cuts I have ever seen!

My favorite section of the GAP though is the piece between the Big Savage tunnel, over the Keystone Viaduct to the Salisbury Viaduct. It highlights the best railroad bridge & tunnel infrastructure on the trail.

Hello Goodleg: My husband rides an e-trike because of balance problems. He got an ICE e-trike from The Bicycleman in Alfred Station, NY. That shop deals in recumbents and trikes and may not be too much of a drive for you depending on where you live in PA. It might be worth checking out. Welcome to the forum!

I know of the Bicycleman and my trike is an ICE Adventure HD. It has been great and I will keep it.
I bought a Trek Allant+ 8s Stagger but haven’t ridden yet.
