Hi, I'm Tony and i am after some advice ,
My E Bike is a Giant road E+1, i have had it about five years and enjoyed riding it,
about eighteen months ago i had to put it into storage, i charged the battery (
energypak 500 side mount) to half full and removed it from the bike,
i have just charged it to start riding , it shows 5 red bars, not green, mounted on the bike, it shows 100%
on the display, i have been on a short ride and all seems okay.
i realise now that i should have charged it at intervals,
do i need a new battery, or can anything be done with this one ?
any help would be appreciated.

If it were me, I'd just ride it.

The e-bike might just be confused from a long hibernation?
If 5 red bars meant that your battery was going to blow up, Giant would probably program the e-bike to shut down.

I'd also email Giant and ask about it.

My e-bike battery shows full bars on the battery (4 green lights) when it reaches ~50% charge and shows ~50% voltage on the display.

My controller also accepts 36V and 48V batteries, and if I run my e-bike down until the controller shuts down my 48V battery, the e-bike will restart showing 100% charge because it thinks it's got a 36V battery installed.

Thank you for that, i guess that is the best way forward,
i'll get out on a ride at the weekend & see how it goes.

Yup, I would say a glitch or fault on the battery display cicuitry, but this is not to be toyed with, I dont know if thats a symptom of a bms issue.
I would get it checked asap and store it somewhere safe till then, probably OK to ride it, but dont get on a train or leave it locked near a crowded public space.
From your forum doomster :)

Tony,
The safety system on the quality e-bike does everything possible to save you from dire consequences such as a battery fire. For instance, the charging could have stopped with the charger LED showing you an alarm (blinking red). As I can understand, your charger's LED didn't blink during the recharge, at least that's good.

All red LEDs on the battery does not sound good. Five years for an e-bike battery and a long time it was not being recharged rings a big alarm bell. Please let Giant people diagnose the battery. It might need to be properly disposed of, same as my 7-year old Specialized battery that was used for five years, and finally died on a single bad cell (but it was the charger to report the error in my case).

Isn't the battery warm in some spot, even if the battery is off?
