Just found and joined this forum, looks like a great resource. I've been interested in getting an e-bike for a while, and recently started poking around for info. I used to bike a lot when I was younger and lived in upstate New York. Where I live now is very very hilly, and that has been a bit of a deterrent for me to get back into biking. Been thinking an e-bike would make the terrain around here a little less daunting. Anyway, I'm hoping to get some advice/guidance on picking a bike. I'd mainly be riding on paved bike paths (there are a lot in this area), roads, and possibly a bit on gravel paths. Any suggestions as to how/where to start searching, and on what types of bike would be most appropriate? Thanks in advance.

The best thing would be to visit these folks and try out few bikes.

Hello, I m over in Sevier Co. my wife and I both have Electra electric bikes, hers a townie go and mine the commute model. We bought hers a few years ago from REI, mine a few weeks ago from Cycology in Maryville. They are a Trek and Electra dealer, and I m very impressed with their operation, a professional top notch shop. The bikes carry a two year warranty. They also have a rental fleet. A shop nearby for service was the key reason I choose the Electra brand.I believe there in a Pegasus dealer in Gatlinburg that does rentals.
The only local riding I ve done has been in my neighborhood, which is also hilly, like you commented yours was. I would really like to take the bikes to Townsend. Good luck with your bike search.

Hello : depending on what you want, what you are willing to spend ,how much you ride, miles / terrain -Off/on road ,repairs , you are willing to deal with or without ...customizing a cheep bike may make you wish you spent more in the first place...
you may want to look for better brakes & safety, (batteries are a big deal style -volt amps) ,,mid drive motor vs hub motors //regenerative braking may be for you,(prob not worth $$),, size and weight should be considered...where you start is the toughest decision after that customizing it making it your's is no problem...
just remember buy a good lock to help you, keep it your's...( I have a cheep china bike.. I fix it reg.. and I can't recommend due to poor quality.price great..critical parts cheap - lots of customizing )
If you plan on riding a lot, get an extra battery right off the bat (you won't regret it). reliability/goes up with a full charge.. many have some type of proprietary battery pack.

Remember safety first...
Good luck enjoy...
