Hello from Atlanta GA - Rad Rover on order

Yes - I want to get a rear light and will need to get a good lock. Planning on using it to commute to work - only a 4 mile trip. Open to any suggestions- thanks!

I mostly use my Radrover to commute to work also (about 13 miles round-trip). The fat tires make for a very comfortable ride and it can handle transitions to different surfaces like uneven concrete sidewalk surfaces, cracked asphalt, and dirt lots with ease (still have to avoid potholes). You will find out there is a lot of debris in the bike lanes when you have to share the road with cars (broken car parts, tons of glass, sharp rocks, trash, etc...).

One thing that surprised me was how easy it is to get a flat tire if you have a lot of goat heads in your area. There really isn't a lot of rubber to stop the average size goat head from puncturing the inner tube. The thin rubber on the tires are probably to keep the weight down. I ended up using Mr Tuffy tire liners and 2 2-oz bottles of Stans tire sealant per tire. Usually every weekend, I'm picking out 10-20 goat head thorns broken off in the tread and some of them punch through Mr. Tuffy also. I just rotate the tire until the sealant squirts out, wait a few seconds until it stops, and double check the PSI for a few days afterwards. I imagine my inter tube looks like swiss cheese after +4 months of doing this every weekend.

Thanks for the advice- I haven't heard of goat head thorns so I don't think that's an issue here, but agree on the debris in the bike lanes. I will look into the tire liners and sealant. Thanks!!

They might call them something else in your local parts OR you just might just be lucky enough not to have them. All of my flats are from these compared to everything else I run over daily. They are pain for bikes and pets everywhere.

Welcome to EBR, @Jim M! Yep, those goat head stickers are gnarly and sneaky, they like to hide in totally innocent looking green grass :). They can do a number on your tires. I like thicker thorn resistant tubes together with a serious tire liner, like Mr. Tuffys to prevent flats when you have to ride in bike lane junk.

We have the same little stickers; but, the plant looks a little different in the southwest.

Can't wait to get my Rad Rover on Monday- thanks again for the advice to help avoid flats. Will update as I get it put together and onto the road

Race is on Jim, mine comes on Monday also if all goes well. Unfortunately won't finish this hitch until Thursday, and it is killing me!

Ordered so far: Suntour seat post, ebay cree headlight. To go is a bottle opener ( thanks BVR!), rack, full fenders, and hydraulic brake conversion.

Dang! Never saw those before. They look like would hurt!

That sounds like some nice upgrades, I know the front light isn't that great so I'm sure I will be looking to add one. Let me know how the new light works for you.

That's an awesome picture, @Jim M! Where did you shoot that? Your bike owns the scene; glad you have so many miles on the bike so far.

Thanks- took this shot at Lake Windward in Alpharetta GA. Short ride from my house and no worries about the hills anymore!
