Had A close call today.

Usually. I think a close call is some crazy driver but this time it was the strap on my pannier. I was coasting down a long hill at 30 and the stop cot caught between the wheel and fender first it was rubbing and I started slowing but then m=the real wheel locked up and I fishtailed to a stop. pretty freaky for sure. I found the straps wedged under the fender. it broke the fender and screwed up the wires to the taillight. what I don't know there are two separate wire runs I guess going to the til light. one has push together connectors that pulled out of the tail light but the other side has two broke wires that I don't know what they go to. I had to ride another 5 miles down hill with my tire bumping on the flat spot. this is what a marathon plus e bike tire looks like. I thin kits the first time I smelled Burt rubber while riding a bike.

Sounds like you're OK? Too bad about that almost new tire...😖

You're safe. All the other stuff is just stuff and can be replaced. 👍
yep just money :p would not be so bad if I had not just bought the e tandem. this pannier caused the same thing on the tandem but it just tore up the brake light wire. I did not realize this till this happened. maybe the strap got too long? who knows? well the strap is gone now so no worries there:D

Glad your ok. I had a similar but nowhere as bad incident when I first bought my bike. The previous owner didn't tighten the screws on the rear rack and as I was riding home one of the screws that held it to the seat stays came off and the rear rack flapped backwards scraping against the tire. Luckily I was able to put it back to gether when I got home. But on the way I had to hold the rear rack with one hand while riding back.

Get yourself some Ortlieb Panniers. No elastic straps involved. Expensive, but they are near bulleproof, and the mount is very secure.

Good to hear you are ok after having an equipment failure at 30 mph! I always do a pre-flight check for anything that may be loose.

The fender looks like SKS and should be easy to replace and rewire. The rear Marathon tire is toast... time for a new set of shoes. ;)

Yoikes! Could have been real nasty. Glad you're okay.

Having had a little dingle last week where the pedal, bar end and Ortlieb pannier (not to mention my chin and extremities) took the full brunt of a crash I can attest to their near bulletproofness. Not a scratch on the bike.

Ah yes, you know he's a true cyclist when getting up from a crash he shouts, "the bike's OK!"

I have 4 of them this was a really small locally made one just for carrying a water bottle a spare battery and such. it was the carry strap that got caught not the way it was mounted. but that strap is history now so it does not matter (G)

hard to know with e bikes there are clips that hold the wire. but I don't why there is a wire running on both sides to the tail light. the wires will be needed to to be replaced the motor.

Single wires? The light would need 2 wires, one for '+' and one for '-'.

I meant there are two two wire running to the tail light. the ride side has the wire connectors to fit the tail light. the left side had the ends or whatever it was attached too. I don't know what that wire run is for though.
