So with the axle being round does this make it a lot easier to put the wheel back in the frame and line it up properly? I find taking the rear wheel off my Juiced CCS and putting it back on to be a huge pain.

It seems like the round drop out would make it a lot easier, but would like to know what experienced builders think.

I had been thinking about getting a mid-drive due to the hassles with the hub motor. But if this makes taking the wheel off and putting it back on a lot easier then I do like the reliability of a hub drive. Particularly this one that is smaller because it's geared but it somehow does regen.

Once I loosen everything the wheel comes out fine. I was more referring to the fact it's not a QR or thru axle. You have to use a wrench, it's heavy, etc .... I know those things won't change, but putting the wheel back in was a major pain. Took a really long time. Seemed like anytime the axle lined up the brake didn't and vice versa.

For me, lining everything up on a hub drive so that it can drop in is not something I want to do in the rain (in a hurry). If you take your time, I don't see it as being that difficult. Thankfully it's no heavier than it is!

It's really a matter of familiarity. You're probably doing OK just not having done it many times haven't developed a comfortable method. Practice. You're way ahead of the pack and being self-sufficient. Good job!

Thanks Thomas, one day I will take the plunge and try to install one of the Grin kits. I live in Vancouver so I'm a short ride to their shop.

Does anyone know the spacing on the rear axle for this motor? 135 mm? 142 mm? I doubt it's 148 mm. If I'm going to get this kit I'll need to know what frame to get.

I'm thinking about the standard MAC 12t I received a couple day ago, and if it's possible that it might be converted to this non clutched version with the torque arm. Going to have to call Grin I think.

Personal preference I think. They say the 10t is close to the same amount of torque, and it's faster. I have no need at all for the extra speed (in excess of 25mph) and prefer any extra torque I can get. Just different priorities if I understand properly....

I'm just fine with 20mph. We'll be using 48v w/35a 12 mosfet KT controller.

But do you see my point? 12t is PLENTY fast enough for me and most non commuters. Why in the world would I want an 8 or 10t? I'd much rather have something I can actually use, like TORQUE!

You wear me out fella. Grin simulator is one of the most accurate tools available. So you just go on believing you're smarter than one of the most brilliant eBike engineers. Me? I'm done trying to get anything through to those without the experience and unwilling to listen. I'm done. 40KPH

I really wish I hadn't let this thread devolve with this silly exchange. I hope we can return to a discussion of the motor and it's advantages, not trading reseller sales pitches.
