Grace MX2 - the coolest

I took delivery of my SMART ebike in Delta, BC two weeks ago .. Delivered to my door step in a classy new Mercedes station wagon. If you're curious go drive one at your local SMART/Mercedes service center ... simply amazing! I've also heard Portland, Oregon will have demos this month.

We just got word that we should be seeing these in the US early this summer. We're still working out the specifics but it's going to happen

Brambor - The MX2's will be available early this summer. It should be available in both the standard 20mph and speed pedelec version at 28mph. Currently the Grace Easy is available in all styles including the Speed version, but we're still waiting on the Bosch powered systems. They should arrive around the same time as all the other Bosch bikes.
Grace was (perhaps still is?) involved with the design and builds the seat post on my SMART electric bike. With over 300 km I'm happy to report the Canadian pedalec "limit" of 32km/hr lets me blow by most bicyclists including recumbents - especially on hills and in headwind conditions. Ebikes are a wonderful transportation tool! The selectable four levels of assist provides a steady 15, 20, 25, and 30 km/hr in my neighbour hood which has some long steep hills - 300 feet vertical elevation. The Bionix display calculates trips average around 20 km/hr/ride - Exhilarating!

I believe the Mercedes (Daimler) 48 volt SMART electric bike sells in America for $2950 - awesome German quality and long term service guarantee. You can take a spin on one at your local Mercedes Benz parts department.

Well Put! there are some simple formulas that matter to many of us, I would like a bike that feels like a bike and goes a little easier and a little faster, many details are wasted on me , just work ! I don't care what brakes are installed if they work. I don't care for many of the ST2 fanciness, only upgrades that interests me are a larger battery and add'l power form 48 volts, the rest of the stuff is to "fluffy" and not worth it, actually detracts from a bike to me. I am impressed w/Izip Path , same basic specs, a lot cheaper, possibly better support.
I would pay extra for "stealth" as I am really a rails to trails fan and ebikes aren't allowed on some trails even if i follow all rules due to state laws

We don't have the official pricing just yet, but keep in mind an entry Bosch bike runs about 4K, add a belt drive, a Nuvinci and a Speed drive; 5k seems about right. We should have more details soon.

DHS - Do you have any details on that SMART bike? It seems like the numbers might be off. None of the Mercedes dealers in this area know anything about them.
Well if its under $5k that's not too much of a premium price.... Guess we'll have to wait for USA pricing.
Try Googling SMART electric bike ... I think the first ones arrived in Portland, Oregon not long ago. Even with our weaker dollar I paid close to $2950 USD in Vancouver, BC Canada. Outstanding value and service in my experience. Also try www.youtube.com/watch?v=oScQAULOeOA

Yeah, I'd love to test ride one of these during the East Coast trip. If you hear anything Chris please let me know! I did some searching yesterday but came up short, couldn't find any dealers East of Colorado with the bike for testing.

DHS - Thanks so That definitely seems like a pretty sharp bike for the money. It seems like the same drive system that is on the Grace Easy, it's a Bionx with a internally geared hub. I think the Grace Easy with similarly spec'd parts is about $1000 more.
Court - I don't think anyone on the east coast is selling them. Seems like a decent ride though.

I have been to Europe a couple of times pining away for my MX2 but wanting it for half as much as it is being offered. The bike shop in Zurich I visited was great with heaps of great bikes but no MX2 yet.
I have in the mean time settled for a very ugly but powerful bike re-badged. It is a Chinese bike but available in Australia. It is supplied by Dillinger. They are in another state and so getting any warranty or parts is going to be problematic but the specs are good.

German bikes just are so great in general with their components and attention to detail and build quality. The closest I think I can get to a good middle ground is the IZIP E3 Dash like i think Court reviewed. If only my bike was a bit more reliable and not so uninspiring.
Anyway I was thinking of the IZIP Dash for my next bike just because I really want the speed and the MX2 is a bit slower at 42 Kmh max speed - this is a perfect cruising speed for me. Any thoughts ??? Its' a shame they don't just bring out a bigger engine and let people register them but I guess this is for the Grace 1 but it still is slow really.
Design wise, Diavelo make some great bikes but i cant find them anywhere and their website is really woeful.
The Specialised Turbo is a great bike as well but just too limited.

Focus make really good bikes I have a belt drive and it is really great bike to ride even after getting of my electric monster !!
It is superbly put together and completely outshines my ugly duckling (or vulture) but I cant bring myself to kit it out as it is so much fun.
Internal rear hub and super nice brakes etc. It's in my earlier post.
Hey by the way do you get that moving sensation when you have been cruising on your e-bike a lot?? It's like you are still moving .... something new for me !!
BTW has anyone ridden the "FORD" built by Pedego @ $3650? So many choices so little time.
Hey Richard, the Dillinger looks like a nice bike. Kind of reminds me of the Volton electric bikes with downtube battery pack. The white color looks great, I've never painted a bike because it seems like it would be a lot of work taking everything apart and then also adding a clear coat. I have considered doing a vinyl wrap however... I'm not sure how expensive this is but with more and more cars getting it done for promotions it seems like a bike could be reasonable? Especially if it's one color. Otherwise, stickers can be fun
Hey DHS, I've ridden the Ford Supercruiser and thought it performed quiet well. Follows most of the same design paths as the Pedego Cruisers with the big tires, relaxed frame and large seat with swept back handlebars... The rear pack design concerned me at first (since the pack is built right on top of the fender) but it actually held up quite well. That said, I don't think it's designed for cargo bags or panniers which is a bummer. I also would have enjoyed pedal assist and front suspension... My rating for the bike is probably a bit high but I did the review quite a while back and was excited to see a major auto manufacturer getting on board and Pedego does offer excellent support for their products.
