Good rear rack panniers/pack for folding bike?

I am hopefully going to get a hold of an Epik Se next week. I guess the rack on them can be considered higher than a normal folder. I am a commuter and I will regularly have a MacBook, iPad, running shoes, gym clothes, a shake bottle, and a towel with me. That is a bit of a list but it doesn't demand a ton of space. The laptop is the most non-negotiable piece when it comes to space. Anyone have any pictures of pannier success with their folders? The look is less important than heel strikes! Thanks!

I think you'll be good with the rack that comes with the bike. They come standard now as Chandlee pointed out. They're out of stock in many places until August, but we have a couple left. Axiom makes some nice stuff for a reasonable price, the Journey series is nice. Ortlieb are really the best, but they're pricey.

You could also get a pannier that converts to a backpack. That might work well for your needs.

As far as I know, they only have that one and the white one these days, unless they come out with some shiny black ones in August. However, I was talking to someone earlier and mentioned that the matte black seems "stealthier" anyway.

I don't know the difference between the two Axiom Cortez' above except that one says Journey and one doesn't.

It seems they could be different model years. The Amazon one doesn't show the capacity, but from a basic search some show different Cubic Inches. One is 915 and another was ~1015. Neither of these are from Axioms current lineup if you look at their website. That's not a bad thing, but I just wanted you to know.

Yeah good eye! They look closest too what is called the Paddywagon. A good question to ask is: Does something like this overwhelm a folding bike?

I left you a PM on your wall. I was on your website. I am ready to get this bike from somewhere. I could either get it now or wait for E-Joe to get more out in August. I know that E-Joe is now shipping them equipped with both the rack and the big/stronger headlight and taillight on the rack. Is this what yours has now or do you have the ones from the beginning of the release? I know that they keep changing!

And I am wondering if it is the 350V.
The ones we have are with the rack and 350W. We have one left at E-Joe that we paid for already as we knew they were selling out. Then we'll be out till August. It will have all the most recent upgrades.

Thanks for the quick reply!! Let me see if I understand. You have some at the store. But you also have another one at E-Joe that has the most recent upgrades that the ones at your store don't currently have, including new lights. Am I right?

By the way, I know about the lights because I saw a picture somewhere in an August magazine clip and because of the following that the VP of E-Joe said in another post to another customer. Someone was criticizing the small/weak light and the VP confirmed that it had been upgraded.

"I'm considering ordering the SE. It looks close to ideal for my needs. But a few questions for the knowledgeable people here.
  1. The order page for the bike says it has front and rear lights. Could you EBR guys confirm this? I expect I'd want to put my own better lights on, but it would be good to know what to expect.
  2. This is probably in the spec sheet, but I can't find it. How much current does the charger draw? I'm going to be using it with my RV, and I'd like to be able to charge it up while I'm driving, which would probably require an inverter. I can see on the illustration for the charger that it outputs 24V DC at 1.8 amps. There's also some inconsistency about how long it takes for a full charge. Anyone know? 6? 8? Longer?
  3. Could one of you with a current model in hand tell me how far it is from the floor to the frame where I'd step over it
  4. BTop speed. The manufacturer's web site says 15.5mph. Court's review says that in 2014 it went up to 20?
Thanks, guys!
Rich "

From the VP -
  • Yes, e-JOE's Epik SE has a strong front and rear light set.
  • As the VP of the company I'm often riding and recharging. For me a fully drained battery normally takes 4 hours to charge.
  • Top speed varies but we've set our 2014 model for 20 mph full throttle speed.
  • Re power draw, I'll let you know. But don't you have an AC plug for 110?
  • Re floor to frame measurement, I'll get that too.
  • Or, Rich, just call me anytime. I'm in Seattle: 360.621.2753.

That's correct. I have one at my shop with the upgrades and one at E-Joe, I can ship either, but I would probably have E-Joe ship it to you direct. These are the last two till the August shipment I believe. I'm actually out of the shop visiting my sister till Thursday, but I have my guys running the shop till then, so I might not be as available as usual. If you order it today E-Joe should ship today or tomorrow at the latest.

Thank you, Chris! I just placed this order now. I added a note with it referring to our conversation about the upgrades and that you had one at E-Joe. That would be sweet if if shipped out today and I saw it before the weekend! Either way, I am glad I got my hands one one, especially fully loaded! I am a teacher on summer break so I am around all day if you need to talk to me about anything. Thanks!

Thanks bud! Much appreciated, we got that order over to E-Joe and I'll shoot you an email with tracking. Let me know if I can assist further.

Happy riding!

Thanks! Currently deciding on locks. I am leaning towards the OnGuard Mastiff chain. Do you sell lots of chains and ULocks at your shop? I realize you are traveling. Reply whenever!
