Giant targeted. Not a good situation...

Targeted or caught?
If you read their response it seems they've only recently took action.

Bikes for children, made by children.

Not really sure. I don't think I've seen enough info yet to form a proper opinion.
I concur... Not much on the specifics by either side.
But Giants response led me to believe that some valid issues did exist but were being addressed.
I don't see the bicycle industry being much different than others producing global products such as the garment

Same here… I’m hesitant to cheer or decry this kind of stuff without specifics. I hope it’s not just political.

As Charge said, this is surely a Pandora’s box… Worldwide economic factors are incredibly difficult to look at completely rationally.

I haven't heard of any political animosity towards Taiwan... actually most all comments are to the contrary. But that or the fact that you like their product shouldn't grant them a get out of jail free card either.
That said announcements and actions without details can only lead to speculation.

It is all connected. Where do old Icelandic Coast Guard ships end up? Even if they have great worker protections and environmental rules. 11 year old girls are dealing with asbestos.

I wonder who and in what conditions actually makes those scrap metal e-bikes in the mainland China.

It's Taiwan, and I would not expect exploitation of migrant workers, but after reading some articles that appear credible, wow, it looks to be a valid response by the CBP.

Unfortunately the CPI doesn't factor in bicycle parts, but this issue is certainly not limited to Giant. Best to buy bike parts now.

I was reading up on this, and it seems the US is in difficult tariff negotiations with Taiwan and the motivation is to put pressure on the Taiwanese government to concede to US demands. The labor exploitation issue is much bigger than one Taiwan based bicycle manufacturer. It was also stated that this embargo on Giant products will help US bicycle manufactures. 🤔

When did the Trump administration start caring about workers rights, and when have they ever spoken the truth. To them, this is just a lever to use against Taiwan in the present trade dispute. The jewel of Taiwan's industry isn't bicycle manufacturing.
