I had a recent bout of bike envy after riding a friends FS Giant and decided to do something about it. I looked around for a FS bike that would suit my needs but the only one I found is at least 3 months out.....I am not good at waiting to scratch my itches so I came up with plan B to revive my old FS frame that has been on the sidelines dur to a broken derailleur hanger that is a custom part that finally got made again.......

I stripped my hardtail down to the frame and made an ultimately successful attempt at getting the Moots Ti post that has been stuck in there for 10 yrs..Wasn't easy but it finally came out.

Then I transferred the parts onto the FS frame which wasn't as easy as it sounds due to having to do some fit mods for the der. hanger and widened the seat stays so that I can run a bigger 650b tire, a 2.5 just barely fit and widened it enough so that a 2.8 WTB Trail Blazer will fit which is my dryer month favorite. I finally got a real suspension fork as some of you might remember those funky Fournales forks I've been using for years. That and a seat post that goes up and down along with some rear cush I am happy as a clam at high tide. It should get me through the next 3 months just fine!

Got my first real ride in today on the locals. Where I live even the 1.5 miles of paved road I travel to the trails is full of pot holes, especially on the side where I ride. It's always caused me to dart and weave to mis them on my hardtail or take the consequences. First thing I noticed was I didn't have to do any avoidance and in fact found myself aiming for them.

Once on the trail, which is in the forest and has lots of roots but no many rocks it just flowed over them where my hardtail bucked like a rented mule and a noticable increase in traction when I got to the greasy uphill sections. I lowered the saddle, now that I can, 1" from my normal height I've been riding for years and that didn't effect road riding and greatly improved confidence in the rough stuff and in fact cleared sections that had eluded me in the past 1st try. Think I'm going to hold off on the dropper for a bit actually.

A fell a little chagrined that it took me so long to come to this realization seeing as how I have owned this bike since it was made in 2005 but as I remember it rides better now as a heavier bike than it did before. Still want to get a BD M600 when they become available but this will make the 3+ month wait more bearable.
