first ebike - 14 mi commute each way

I'm not sure I would consider ordering from that bikesdirect website....the webpage looks like one of those old scam websites and in bold letters at the top "*ALL BIKES FREE SHIP 48" which just fires all the warning sirens in my head. I've gone ahead and ordered a vado 4.0 from a local bike shop, I think it gets in this week. plan to be pretty aggressive on potentially returning if it doesn't suit my needs but the test ride went well and it was really nice - now we will see how it holds in 14 miles of 45 degree rainy mornings =)

I have ordered a few bikes from the BD website without any issues... and always a good value if you don't mind a little bit of assembly. (no affiliation)

As for Bikes Direct...I have bought MANY bikes from them, both low caliber and high-end (As with Shimano Dura-Ace, Ultegra, Deore XT), both road and mountain bikes, not only for myself and my family, but for a number of friends. We have NEVER had any issues with them, and their prices really cannot be beat! Supporting local bike shops is great, as long as you can afford the higher cost. I've bought $2,000 all Ultegra Carbon-Fibre Road bikes for around $800. Try to find that deal at a local bricks and mortar shop!

It's true that there's assembly involved, but unless you're really no good with tools, you shouldn't have trouble assembling a bike. All the difficult stuff is done before you get it. There are Youtube videos that will walk even a novice through the process. Check it out.

Thanks for the info. Weighing if I will need a different bike with a throttle versus the eurban and mid motor. Currently 50/50 on which to get.
