The S is lighter then the Cortland 41 lbs v. 42.5 lbs and it doesn't have the belt drive or internally geared hub. Because of this the S is around $1000 less making it a more affordable option for some.

I didn't realize until this review that the Cortland S model has a single style kickstand. For me, that's a plus.

For $1000, the trade-offs between the S and the regular "classic" model are pretty small. I think the S model is a much better bike for the price.

I upgraded my Kickstarter pledge to also get a front rack, helmet, and other goodies. Looking forward to July (or August or ...)
