EVELO Aurora limited vs Gazelle C380

My wife (5’ 9 1/2”) has been looking at bikes for a few weeks and has come down to the Aurora limited vs the Gazelle C380. Use would be primarily recreational, touring, etc. Mosty paved surfaces but some dirt and gravel and hills as well. Distances 30-50 miles. We have ridden the C8, looking for a 380 to try, but probably will not be able to try the Aurora. The C8 was too small, but otherwise it was great. My main concern with the Aurora is the weight, not being able to try it out and no local support. The 380 does not have a throttle and a smaller battery, and the tires seem a little narrow for nonpaved surfaces. I would welcome any comments.

Both the Aurora Ltd & Gazelle C380 have Enviolo CVT which is great and user friendly to ride albeit a bit fiddly for the shop to adjust. Speaking of shop support Evelo say they work with any local bike shop but you will need to find one near you prepared to trouble shoot the Bafang system, the Bosch system on the Gazelle is better supported with a national network of Bosch-certified technicians. You rightly point out the two main differences between the two bikes are weight and throttle. I'd definitely recommend test riding the C380 because it uses the slightly more powerful Bosch Performance (63nm) motor over the Bosch Active Plus (50nm) motor on the C8. Going to throw in a third option, test ride one of the new Serial One Rush CTY ebikes at a Harley Davidson dealer.

The C8 was too small

С8 comes in 3 sizes. I am 5' 10" and mid size (53cm) one is a perfect fit for me. I am going to pass C8 to my wife and get C380+ for myself - got a chance to test ride it few weeks back and it is great upgrade over C8.
Serial 1 while looking good still quiet difficult to find for test ride and there are not some many real owners with some reasonable ownership time to find out if there are any issues/troubles with their bikes.

I recently bought a 380+ mid step from Landry’s j Boston(drove 3 hours to find a large mid step as I am 6’4” and 195lbs). I def prefer the cvt over igh big time, and I def appreciate the plus for the 85nm of torque for my weight and the extra bike weight at a large size and the speed ability to keep up with traffic when needed. Over all the others the gazelle just felt like it was better at being a bike than the others I tried, rides like a Rolls Royce. I would not drive a chain powered bike for love money or sainthood. I drove bmw motorcycles for the shaft drive vs chain as well. This is the bike I would get regardless and any price constraints.

Call landry’s in Boston etc, they had several I think at commonwealth ave store I was at. Maybe were sold and just there but check.

Also wheelworks in Boston seemed to have some. Also check propel in Brooklyn and ny bikes in manhattan on uws. Maybe they only had c8’s but I think had a c380 or two a few days ago

I tried Landry’s and wheel works. I think they had one or two but in the wrong size. Thanks for the suggestions though.
