Here's a build up we're particularly proud of:

Titanium El Mariachi frame.
Bionx D-series.
Carbon firestarter fork.
XX 2x10 drivetrain.
Guide RSC brakes.
Front wheel: Easton Carbon.
Easton Carbon Handlebars
XX Shifters
Leather Ergon grips.
VP Components Titanium Blade Pedals

41.9 lbs. 9 oz. But we could probably have it in the thirties with a better seat post and saddle, cutting down the fork and switching the stem.

I love this thing.

I am thinking of forsaking a new ST2 and buying and OHM 700 165 with a Bionx D500 motor and then installing a Shimano XTR DI2 electronic shifting system. Any opinions on this??

Brilliant! That would be amazing. Yeah, you should do that. The XX1 would work, too. I know that these cassette designs were made for hard shifting, but I still tossed a cheaper x-9 level cassette onto the Bionx to run for a little while to let the customer break into the bike. I have an inkling that this setup could crush high-end cassettes. An XG-1099 is in the cards for later.

Will the OHM frame accommodate an 11 speed?

Not sure, comes with a SRAM 10 speed gearset...Need to check with my bike tech. This would be expensive to do but I'd have a solid bike with electronic shifting for less than a Stromer. I could settle for an XXI (LOL)
 
Chandlee: How is the power delivery with the new d500 motor? Are you happy with both the speed and the torque.
 
Throw in my 2 cents worth! The D 500 series BionX seriously outperforms their S series; is more quiet and incredible torque. Speed limit preset at 20mph is a little downside. BionX tends to be on the conservative side speed wise, but the performance and features of this system are solid, including the battery. Just a subtle note coming from the bike shop side--just changed a rear flat on a Montague military setup (guy does all types of rescue work) with the D 500 and happy when the rear wheel smoothly dropped from the rear dropouts, no fight no fuss after removing the axle bolts. Like a regular 'ole bike! So many of the production ebikes with a 'quick' disconnect are anything but quick to remove or re-install. For some reason, the manufacturers choose to make the fit in the dropouts 1 or 2mm too tight. An advantage! Could be that BionX worked with Montague to produce the better alignment--this is a special production item by BionX for rescue teams.

OHM XU 750-165 reaches 28-30mph, unlike the stock Bionx-D series motor. (Thanks Michael!)
Also comes with a nice set of Schwalbe Supermoto X tires (same ones that go on Focus Thron Impulse speed).
You know what's nice about OHM bike frames? they use 7005 grade hydroformed aluminum instead of 6061 industry standard. So, you get incredibly light bike frame.

The good news is that Ohm bikes come derestricted and will assist up to 28mph.

Super pleased with both. It's about the most powerful motor out there with the best torque sensor. The level one pedal assist is my favorite in the industry. You genuinely won't feel it helping you, so you'll feel like superman. It also runs really quite, which I love.

I'm currently riding a Surly Karate Monkey Bionx setup. It's my sixth e-bike in two years (not too difficult when you have a shop and don't have a car). Admittedly after doing this build, I'm looking at a titanium build for myself. I'd like to be under 40 lbs., but that's a pipe dream right now. BTW Bionx advises against carbon frames so ti is the way to go.

The coolest thing is I feel like it's one of the best ways to future-proof yourself. Once you have the bike that you really like, you can save money on getting the best. Just upgrade kits down the line and don't worry about the bike. Bionx is stellar and backwards compatible! If you have an 48v s series you can upgrade to a d-series motor right now and save $1300! You just won't have the range.

@Ann M. : Montague builds are so cool. Any bike designed by paratroopers definitely gets my approval. I haven't found that the D-series is quieter than the S-series, however, it's still quieter than everything else, and it has a more guttural sound that I find quiet satisfying.

@Crazy Lenny Ebikes: I love super moto x tires. Hope they come out in retail at some point. I actually went small block eight front and rear. It'll have fantastic road and off road characteristics, but 30-80 psi mirrors Schwalbe balloon styles.

I'll create a link for the karate monkey soon. I've done some silly stuff to it.
