E-bike riders pose far lower traffic safety risk than non-assisted riders

Curious to see a similar comparative breakdown of incident rate by speed limit, not that that'll be happening any time soon. For example, would we see similar results in countries with higher pedelec limits like NZ, Canada and the US? (Frankly I'm just after hard justification to lobby for a speed limit rise here in Australia from 25 km/h)

I would like to see data that supports the authors statement which says e-bikes are faster than conventional models. In the 2000+ miles I've logged on my e-bike, I've been passed dozens of times by thin tired racing bikes but only once by another e-bike. I generally ride in the 12 - 15 mph range, the same as I do on my conventional MTB. The difference is in the distance I ride, not the speed.

Incredible Stopping Power
Experience the most powerful brakes on the planet. The CrossTour is well equipped with the Hayes Dominion A4, quad piston brakes, with 203mm front rotors. They look great, and can stop the bike stop on a dime!

Makes a difference verses those old wire caliper brakes we had as kids.
When I was a kid (long time ago!), we pushed backwards on the pedals--that was the only way to brake!

Indeed. At 25 km/h literally every road biker passes me on the flats. Is the comparative safety of ebikes due to our lower speeds?

Road bikers lead with their head. Always struck me as stupid. Still does. Never did it. Yeah, they are 2-3 times faster than me without massive watthour use. The race I am running is how long I can go before the mortician puts me in a box. So far, I am ahead of most of the pelleton (age 70).

Road bike riders (I include myself in that group) lean forward to decrease the wind resistance. When your speed depends on how much/hard you pedal decreasing your wind resistance is important. What you think is stupid is, in actuality, really beneficial.
