E-bike battery help!

Motorino

I have an older Motorino Xp e-bike. I bought it used and like an idiot put it away for a while (a year) without leaving the battery charged. So, I charged it up and it will turn the lights on but not start the bike. So my question is, since the bike didn't come with instructions, did I screw up the battery or am I not starting it correctly???

I "heard" some batteries may fall asleep after long period of inactivity.

It would've also helped if you told the voltage after charging.

Uhhh.... how do you test the voltage??
volt meter? or what some YouTube videos for your bike (or is that actually a moped?), and see if the display can show you the battery voltage.

Yes you may have over discharged the battery. Did you plug the charger in? How long did you leave it on the charger? Does the charger say it is charging?

Left the battery charger on overnight, charger green light was on in the morning.

You're right, it is an electric moped.

Was it a lithium battery of AGM?

Either way, voltage is best checked with multimeter. This is a voltmeter with some other functions. Cost from $3 on Ebay or Amazon.

The Motorino XP scooter comes with either lead acid batteries, or lithium packs. Probably doesn't matter which type they are. If it charges and no longer runs after a year, the packs are worn out. For lead-acid, probably all sulfated. For lithium, discharged past minimum value and the battery management system has deemed it necessary to shut the battery off.

If you didn't know about voltmeters, you better just buy new batteries..

Thank you and will do! :)

Fully charged lithium battery "shouldn't have" discharged below 40-50% in a year at room temperature. But then, it's not recommended to fully charge it before prolonged storage.

Fully charged AGM (a.k.a sealed lead acid) may drop below 40% in a year and become irreparably damaged. They can discharge to 25-30% when working, but it's not recommended to let it drop below 55% while in storage. They should be fully charged and kept on maintenance trickle charging while in storage.

If you don't know battery type and state of charge (and where it should be and how to check it) - Harry is right, buy a new battery. And there is a good chance that you'll have to do this every year.

On the other hand, do make sure it's not a scooter issue,

If it's a lead acid pack, you'll have five 12 volt packs in there. You can take them to a battery shop where they can be tested.

I can't say what to do if it's lithium. Are there Motorino dealers around?
