I brought my Domane HP+ to my dealer for a tune-up. It has 3000 miles on it. The shop told me that they were going to have to rebuild my front IsoSpeed. Has anyone had to have theirs rebuilt?
I spent yesterday ordering spare parts for my Domane+ HP, and was discussing with the local dealer head shop tech and asked if there are "wear items" in the front and rear IsoSpeed. He said they are built such that they can be maintained and repaired, but that they are expected to be maintenance free and doing rebuilds was not common. I have over 3000 miles on mine and some of those are on trails that would not be appropriate for this bike if I wasn't taking it easy ... so I fully expect to rebuild things sometime (thus the spare parts order), but mine is fine so far.
My wife's Domane+ HP had a headset issue with only 300 miles on it where it simply was a loose headset. I tried the basic adjustment but was unsuccessful and thought it might be IsoSpeed related. As it was under warranty I took it back to the shop and they adjusted it properly. I asked if they did anything to the IsoSpeed and they said no, it was just normal headset adjustment but they might have cranked things harder than I was willing to do.
Below is the diagram of the system. I would ask which parts have failed or are worn if they believe it needs to be a rebuild. As you can see, a rebuild would be a replacement or just a limited few parts. If they convince you of the rebuild, ask ahead of time that you want the old worn parts.
