do I need some rain protection for the cables?

The guy at the repair shop soldered a cut wire for me...

He suggested that I look for cable protection... and not to ride this in the rain. Anyone suggest an item?

Slip some 1/2 inch 3:1 marine grade heat shrink tubing over 1/2 of the wire, shrink. Then slide the remaining 1/2 (plus one inch) down over the part you already did. Slide it up to finish the rest.
