Just purchased a refurbished Cross Current. My first bike with disc brakes. Is it normal for the front rim to bow and flex under braking. do I need to have the rim trued or is there a tension issue?

I've seen some flexing of my rims and others I'm riding near, under hard braking. That said, I think getting a check and tune of any bike after 100 miles is a very good idea.

I can hear my front tire squirming under hard front brake application. Can you describe what you're seeing when you say it bowes and flexes? Do you mean it moves laterally? You can go around the wheel and squeeze the spoke pairs together to check for tension. If you notice some have low tension you can have a bike shop or wheel specialist even them out.
