Did Anybody Own A Ebike With The Ultra With A Nylon Gear?

I still have the nylon gears in my 2017 Biktrix Ultra. No problems and dead quiet. If it fails, I have the metals gears on the shelf. Roshan sent them to me free of charge because he loves me and wants me to be happy !
Thanks for your response, if you don't mind telling us, do you use a throttle ?
Do you do much uphill ?

Why take the throttle off ? just leave it and not use it says the guy who throttled home once with a broken leg. Is it too much of a temptation?

That call defies logic here as well, so my bet is somebody convinced him throttles aren't cool....

Yes, lots of hills but took the throttle off ,right after I got it. Not for me.
Very interesting, that is probably the reason why your nylon gear is still alive over 4 years later, in another thread we were discussing how when you pedal on an ultra the wattage/power/torque will slowly move up, but with a pinned throttle from a dead stop in PAS 5 the full 1500W of all that hammers all the components at once, and it's not easy on them.

Makes sense.

The reason why I am asking as we are working on a R & D prototype project that replaces the steel gear with with the best quality "PEEK" carbon fiber gear we can find and make.
This would be even stronger than the Luna one, because it needs to be, it would be black instead natural of "PEEK"
I was watching the video's of the tear downs of that gear, and the originals came with nylon gears but they were shredding under the heavy load this motor can produce.
Questions:
1)Did it fail ?
2)Under what condition did it fail ?
3)If it failed, how long did it last ?
4)If you replaced it with a steel gear how much louder was it ?
5)If you still have it running(nylon gear) are happy with how loud the motor is ?

You can see the project in this thread in the Watt Wagons forum

PEEK Gear For The Ultra Needed
If you can get this gear made I would buy one for the m620 mid drive I will have.

I bought a Biktrix Ultra in fall of 2018 (gunmetal color if that helps; I think the color is changed every year). Does my bike have the nylon gear?

Karl Fat bike blog started the plastic gear panic. Running within motor parameters will not peanut butter a nylon gear. Only those pushing beyond specified limits will have issues. We’ve seen plenty of gears with Ludicrous controllers with melted gears. FFS we ride bicycles. Not motorcycles. And expecting 35-40mph will create all sorts of issues. All good for those that use their noodles, but are we thinking straight running eBike at breakneck speeds?

I am beginning to think most people want a low-cost moped or an electric motorcycle they do not have to license( yes I know some ebikes are rather expensive) the scrutiny will come, thats why it is so hard to buy even class "C" fireworks in a lot of places-Act like Adults!

Not this again. To me , throttles belong on electric scooters, not bicycles . You do what you want and I will do what I want. OK ?
