Dealing with city intersections

Somehow, the idea of suffering in HI is about as believable as enjoying oneself in Buffalo, but I know the latter is possible!
Eh, it's a brave soul who would commute on the Big Island from HOVE to Kona on Hwy 11. I once was stupid enough to consider it :)

To be honest, I don't understand all the angst about intersections. Maybe it is because I have never been in a situation described in the video, where there are multiple cyclists involved? Regardless, I ride in downtown D.C. often, and I have never felt any special danger. When I come to an intersection, I pull up behind the car or cars in front of me, and I wait for them to proceed before I do. If I am at the head of the line, I take my position near the middle of the lane and cross when the light turns. I don't need a throttle; I did not have one before an e-bike, so I don't need one now.

A white helmet. A front light, clear, flashing. A rear light, red, flashing. No hugging the curb. Visibility...it plagues scooters and motorcycles, too...black is invisible...cool as hell, but invisible.

One of the first thing I did with a Yamaha Zuma scooter is wire both headlights together. I could tell how visible I was by how far a car on my right would pull out from a side street. An instant change.
