DCP-18 battery percentage flickering

I just purchased a new Dost e-bike where the battery percentage indicator located in the upper right hand corner of display flickers. Even if you change it to display the voltage as opposed to the battery percentage that flickers also. Everything else displaying on the screen is fine including the battery bars . They sent me a brand new display and that did not solve the issue. I'm just concerned this could be some type of underlying issue wiring, controller Etc. Have any of you ever seen this issue previously and have any idea what could be the cause? It's under warranty so I want to get the issue resolved as soon as possible. Thank you in advance!

That part of the display is measuring battery voltage, so if it's flickering as described, and the display has already been replaced, my bet is it's got a bad connection - somewhere.

It's going to require some effort on your part, but I would unplug every connection between the display and the motor one at a time, and the same between the battery and the motor. While pulled apart, inspect for bent pins, align the plug halves VERY carefully, and reseat them being very careful to insure the plugs are fully engaged.

Yes your advice make sense! Because this is a new bike under warranty I need to make a decision whether to take it to a bike shop or to have them send me a new one. I'm leaning at this point to have them send me a new one as a replacement. The only hassle is packing up the original bike. I think you might agree:) Thanks so much for your feedback!

When you say flickers... Do you mean on and off or that it's constantly changing?
Some voltage bounce +/- 0.2v is normal.
Any issues with the motor itself feeling weak or losing power?

Just flickering. The battery percentage or voltage whatever I decide to have displayed does not change it just flickers . I know that other owners don't have this issue. Some might think no big deal, but as I had mentioned since it's under warranty I want to make sure there's no underlying issue. I paid good money for this bike and I just want it right. I appreciate any feedback you may have!

Can you post a short video?
Honesty I think that you may have another bad display as any bad connection I think would show itself as voltage bounce... But at greater values than described before. This information on the display is coming from the controller so it is possible that the controller voltage output is corrupt
Have you riden the bike? Does everything else work?

Everybody pays good money, but when you don't buy from a local shop it will take some effort to troubleshoot with the company. It says on the website you have a 2 year warranty. Pretty sure you won't be able to just replace the controller since it's in the motor.

You could be right. I know another bike owner that just received his bike also posted his battery % was flickering also. I've attached the video like I said it's very slight, but I paid a lot of money for this bike and I want it right.

True

The manufacturer emailed and said that it looks like there may have been a bad batch of DCP 18 displays from Bafang. He took one of the displays that flickered and put it on an older bike and it still flickered. If it is just the display and everything else on the bike is fine I have no issue with that as long as I know in the future they'll replace the display. That's the latest scoop.

Yeah... That's an odd problem and my initial thought was a bad batch of displays.

It's funny there are some people that probably wouldn't even notice it. I just happened to be very picky and I do notice it :) as long as there's no underlying problem I'm okay with it. I don't believe the manufacturer of the bike with try to mislead me they have been great with your support they really have been. Thank you all for your feedback very much appreciated!

It's easy enough to swap out and that should also be covered by the Bafang warranty... So I don't think it should cost Dost more than shipping it to you.

They sent me a brand new replacement and it did the same thing with the flickering. My contact from the manufacturer took one screen he had that was flickering put it on an older bike that wasn't having any problems and the flickering continued. He commented that they may have changed some internal parts due to the supply issue. Like I said at the beginning I just want to make sure it's not related to any other issue on the bike. Thank you!

The displays are available all over creation. See if Dost will refund you the price for one bought from a source of your choice.

Or better maybe, live with it knowing if it ever quits you can replace the display fairly inexpensively.

I didn't care for the DPC-18 (UART/round plug) that came on my bike. I replaced it when it had just a few miles on it. It's sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Could be yours pretty reasonably.... If you're interested, send a PM and we'll see if we can get together on it. -Al

Minutes ago I ordered a replacement from Amazon. If the one from Amazon solves my problem I'll keep it, if it doesn't then I'll know most likely it's something else on the bike. My guess is that it is the display batch that the manufacturer of the bike have. I appreciate your offer and I will definitely post the results. The display will arrive here on Friday.

With Amazon's return policy, that may work out pretty good for you. Even if you have to pay the return freight, that's a pretty inexpensive way to prove your theory...

Absolutely, I am a Prime member and get free returns. You have a great evening and thank you!

The flickering with the battery percentage was due to the actual DCP-18 display. I was able to verify this when I received another display from Amazon. The only issue with the display from Amazon it's not compatible with my bike. It was a display that provides Eco and Sport mode with only 5 levels of assist. The one that the manufacturer of the bike provides allows you to so I set the power assist levels up to 9 if you decide to do so. At least I determined the issue it in the display and not any of the electronics motor controller Etc. Thanks for all of your feedback!
