Very interesting article, and a long rich history of cycling-coffee 'affinity'. ;)

I see the acoustic bike clubs at various Starbucks and coffee houses throughout our valley. My guess is they ride and then take a nice coffee/cappuccino break!

Yep. A surprisingly large group of them would gather outside a Starbux near my prior shop, that I'd see VERY early on a Saturday during the summer. That was last season, so not sure what they did this past season, since I relocated and Covid also hit. If I had to venture a guess, they likely kept riding and gathering and simply wore masks in between sips of coffee (but then again appreciating the hard core 'determination' of most avid cyclists, masks were likely 'optional'. My observation has been over the years, that not much will deter an avid cyclist in their various life's pursuits.)

Thank you for that article, Mike. I usually ride alone, and almost always stop at a Starbucks during, or at the end of my ride. I like having some kind of destination. Very often, while sitting on the patio, people will come over and ask about my new Rad Rover, which I am always happy to talk about 😊

lol, on long rides i pack more coffee than water! 2 coffee, one water, gotta have your priorities straight!

I saw a video program a long time ago about the early years of the Tour de France and how caffeine was the original stimulant for cyclists because some stages were 250-300 kms long and took 10-12 hours to complete. Blood doping was pretty well non existent back then so coffee was really all they could get especially considering they had to ride all night long on some stages.
Even today, there's some energy gels that contain caffeine
Of course they all drank beer, wine and champagne too but to keep them awake caffeine was the prime choice for those racers
Back in the day I used to just stop at convenience stores along the way and buy regular coca-cola(sugar and caffeine). The trick was to de-fizz it/get rid of the carbonation. I read about this in some cycling/racing book and taught it to friends over the years. It was also a great post ride pickmeup.

Finally, a place I can ask that nagging question....

Has anyone figured out a way to power a handpresso auto from their ebike, or are we stuck in the dark ages pumping away on the wild like an acoustic cyclist?

We're not huge soft drink fans but now and again like to down a fizzy drink when we feel the craving. My wife actually makes her own syrupy concentrate of the famous beverage from caramelized sugar, cloves, cardamom, vanilla bean, cinnamon, and fresh lemons. It's not as dark as Cola but tastes close to the real thing without the additives. We dilute it with plain old soda water.

I'd run my battery flat! I do 2x quad shot lattés in the morning...at home of course, on my Jura superautomatic. One our better investments over the years. Before COVID, friends were always coming over to visit over a coffee or two. Looking forward to doing that again...
