Chain guard failure.

I had my first issue with my Cannondale Contro-e. The Chain decided it wanted to jump the front sprocket. Since there is only one sprocket up front, it had no where to go but into the plastic chain guard. I'm not sure if the chain guard is there to protect your pants or to help guide an errant chain? It doesn't do a good job of eithere. It only covers a small section of chain, so your pants cuff can still get dirty and if the chain jumps the sprocket, the plastic isn't strong enough to guide it back. In my case, the plastic guard was permenantly bent by the chain trying climb over it. The rest of the ride the chain kept jumping around because it was hitting the plastic guard. I tried bending it back into shape with no luck. I did get it down to the bike shop where I purchased the bike. They said they had never heard of it happening before and would contact Cannondale about a replacement part. They don't even know if the part is available as it isn't listed anywhere. So far no luck. Meanwhile they removed the bent guard. The bike runs fine without it, it just looks bare where it used to be. I'm not holding out much hope of find a replacement part as the technician didn't seem too enthusastic about finding one.

What a bummer. This is the type of thing that makes me nervous about e-bike ownership. Even well known brands seem to have difficulty sourcing spare parts
