Can you take a Stromer off road?

Anyone own a Stromer and take it on light trails? Just wondering if you can change the front fork for a suspension (on the elite? I know the Plat can.) And if you can swap the tires for some knobby knobs.

We have gone on dirt trails with no problem. These were not mtbiking trails but non paved gravel trails. The bikes did fine with stiff forks.

Good to know, ty. I also wanted to know have you had to replace your stock tires? I'm just curious about tire options for the st1 and I also heard in a Youtube Video that you can put a suspension fork on both bikes. Is this true or not?

I have Not needed to replace the tires yet.

I don't like suspension forks...but that is just my own quirk.

I take my Stromer Elite on smooth dirt trails all the time.. I would not dare hit anything rough at speeds over 15 mph.. That front fork has only 80 mm of travel and does not look rugged...I think it's a Suntour Radeon...already lost the adjusting knob during one venture and it cost $20 for the replacement parts...smh

What I did was pump up the fork's pneumatic cylinder to 140 psi, which stiffens the ride motion.. Check to see the limits of your fork. You can also add oil to the hydraulic cylinder, but you may want to have your LBS take care of that since it involes specialty tools.

Both of our Stromers lost multiple covers on the lockouts and neither will hold 100 lbs any more. My bike is in the shop, front brake lost pressure, I asked if they would check on warranty for both issues. I asked about warranty before my original shop went out of business, didn't get far then.

I ride on the C&O canal tow path frequently which pretty flat and not too rough, mostly gravel and dirt path.

I have an Elite with carbon fork. It sure is a bumpy ride when the road is not smooth. I might buy a suspension fork. Does anyone have experience with a different fork for their Stromer, besides the Suntour Radeon?

You can modify any bike to better suit your needs. Usually stock suspension forks are cheap low quality units that aren't worth trying to warranty, because all you'll get is another low quality pair just like them. Suntour is low quality. It's best to look to the aftermarket so you can get higher quality parts.

Rex, have you tried playing with tire pressure? It you believe the contact theory of bike tires, your front tire should be at a much lower pressure than the rear tire.. you can find the algorithm somewhere on here or google it... For my stromer, the front tire is 50 psi and the rear 70 psi. It does soften the ride and improves control.

I have Maxxis Excel's on my Stromer Elite and they're good to 70 psig. You can do the math for your particular weight, bike and tires.

Was someone talking about changing the front fork of the St1 elite? I didn't know that was possible... or is it? and just not recommended by OEM?
