Brake levers with two wire are designed to connect one wire to the other when the lever is closed. Electricians call this a normally open switch.
When you have three wires, call then A, B, and C, wire B is connected A until the lever is closed, when you lose the connection. Then Wire B connects to C. Wires B and C form the function of a normally open switch.
Get your multimeter and put it into continuity test mode. Find wires B and C, the two that are connected when the lever brake is closed. Hook that to your controller.
