For those interested in an actual test of the Bosch update...
My update allowed me to access light on/off function and EMTB assist mode (replacing Sport mode) on my Trek Allant+7.

I got my Allant 7+S update today. I can turn the light on and off. Mine still says sport mode, no EMTB mode not sure it is supposed to. I only got to ride around on flat ground today and didn't notice any difference. It was extremely hot out today so I didn't ride it much. I'll post more probably by next week. Although I only have about 125 miles on bike and have ridden mostly in eco and tour I don't know if I will notice the difference in torque.

I know that with the gen 2 motors with Intuvia display, when you '+' up to Sport mode the lower part of the display flashes to "EMTB" for only about a second, and then reverts back to what it had previously displayed (e.g.: Trip distance). The display still only specifies 'Sport' in the upper right.

What motor does yours have? Did you ask them specifically for the EMTB mode?

I think the emtb mode is only on the gen 4 CX motor, mine is the gen 4 speed so no emtb mode that i can see, but there does seem to be a bit more power with the update. Allant S would signify speed motor.

I have the Bosch performance speed motor. I didn't ask about the emtb mode because I didn't know to ask.... unfortunately read these forums afterward

Took my newly updated Allant+7 on a 28 mile ride yesterday but didn’t say much about the EMTB mode. I specifically went off-road into a farm-style driveway (mostly dirt, some gravel and weeds) up a mild incline to an open hilly field with a greater inclines and lots of ruts. I also rode a bit around a beautiful pond. I know, it’s no mountain trail but it’s the kind of off-road I am interested in running around on to get used to rougher touring. Plus the Allant isn’t intended for much more than that kind of terrain.
Anyway, the EMTB mode was definitely an improvement, especially going uphill over/through ruts. It felt like the bike just wanted to climb w/o any major effort on my part. Pretty good for a heavy guy and his 48 lb bike.
Bottom line is I highly recommend this specific part of the Bosch update especially if you have the PLCX motor.

It felt more sensitive to pedal input and gave increased/varied power just when I needed it. I rarely used Sport mode because it wasn’t that much different than Touring. Then again, I never gave Sport mode that kind of test either.

Ok, just for fun I published today’s real-world test. It’s no great hill but its a good indication of how an Allant+7 with the EMTB mode chosen will respond. I had already ridden 17 miles when I veered off and went up the hill.😎👍

did you have to ask for the EMTB mode or is this automatic? I only ask to so i know to be prepared what to ask for when i take the bike in. I called a few LBS in my area and none of them knew about the update....

Yes, I asked specifically for the light on/off function to be enabled and the EMTB mode to be substituted for the Sport mode. The tech checked to make sure my crank arms are 170mm. It took four phone calls to find a Trek dealer who knew about this specific update and had already done it once.

Awesome! 👍 Trailblazing and bushwhacking up that hill!
I was pretty surprised how quickly and easily I made it all the way to the top thru all the weeds, ruts and uneven ground. Now I need to find some dirt trails to ride next. The Allant isn’t built to handle too much rockiness but now that I have a spare tube and a patch kit I’m game!

Just got my update done this afternoon, I am able to turn off and on the light now by holding the + button for 2-3 seconds. I do notice the big difference in the 85NM vs the 75NM i dont have to apply much pressure to get the motor going from the stopped position. I opted to keep Sport mode as i won't be riding the Allant much in gravel/MTB trail areas. Great update also seems like making it up hills much easier.

I’m not generally riding in gravel or mild dirt trails but I’d like to find more of them to explore. Nothing very rough, of course.

Are you still using the stock tires? i think they are Schwabe G one? was thinking of getting the Marathon E-Plus in a couple hundred miles and not sure how much off road/gravel i can do with them.

Yes I am. They should be fine for what I need them for. I have no intention of any rocky or even heavy tree-root-laden trails. The A+7 just isn’t built for it.

they slide easily in anything but pavement. hit a little mud and they slide.
