Bosch performance motor lifespan?

Hello all!
I just bought a used 2015 Townie 8i with the Bosch performance motor and 400 battery pack.
the bike has 4800 miles on it, but I got it for a great price ( at least I think it was 🤔)
The seller ( off Craigslist) claims the battery is new …
How much life can I expect to get out of the motor?
is there a way to tell if the battery is new?
thanks 😊

I ride a 2016 Class 3 Haibike Trekking with 6,700 miles. No issues, but I ride conservatively. I would expect there is a manufacturing date on the battery case, but haven't looked. Any Bosch dealer can plug into the bike and tell you battery health. Usually better to do that before buying though. Double posting usually makes for confusion here.

I just had a 2019 Performance Line Speed (Gen 2) motor failure beginning of January at 10,340 miles. However, I ride the bike all over the US, over all types of terrain and in all kinds of weather, including deserts and severely flooded areas. Plenty of ppl get substantially more miles out of their motors.

Battery: If you go to your local Bosch dealer, you can get a diagnostic test that will report true miles on motor; alert you to needed drive software updates; motor diagnostic results; battery charge cycles; battery voltage corresponding to charge state and other interesting information. Expect this to cost anywhere from free to $40. This will give you a good idea if the battery is new/new-ish. The 400W PowerPacks have dropped in price and some dealers have put them on sale as well, so your seller may have purchased one recently.

The larger dealers have a more sophisticated Bosch battery stress test that will indicate health of individual cells and more. I had one dealer demand $100 for each battery I own to run the test. I declined, and then was offered the tests for free. My view on your situation is that this is unnecessary for you if your battery isn’t too abused, as reveled by the basic diagnostic test. If the seller lied, you might want to consider this more advanced diagnostic at a dealer selling off 400W PowerPacks. This way you could negotiate price on testing with a commitment to buy another PowerPack if the current one is rubbish. Or you could upgrade to 500W.

Not familiar with your bike — but is the battery rack-mounted Or on the frame? It won’t make a difference for the basic diagnostic, but since fewer bikes are rack-mounted, it might influence my decision on replacement or upgrade, if needed. Hopefully, your current battery is in decent shape.

This is a fine motor. After five years have the main bearing replaced and the stepdown gearing cleaned and repacked. Particularly if the bike has been exposed to harsh conditions.

I have 39,762 trouble free miles on my Trek Super Commuter with the Bosch Performance Speed motor.
That's Impressive and, as I have a Bosch powered bike, good to hear.

How old is your bike and what's the status of the battery?

Thanks

Peter
