Biking forever but new to E-Bikes

Didn’t know a lot about e-bikes so I read everything I could get my hands on for about 2 weeks. I have a Trek 7000 MTB that is about 20 years old. It just feels like an old friend so I decided to convert it to an e-bike. I bought a BBS02 kit from Luna Cycles. I just received the kit and it took about 6 hours to install. Quite easy actually. So today it was pretty cold here, in the thirties but I had to take it for a test ride. I started out and I liked the pedal assist, should be great riding into the wind or uphill. Now I had to see how fast it would go. I hit the throttle and immediately felt the acceleration. It topped out at 35 mph. As fast as I want to go without disk brakes. So now I think I have a brake conversion in my future. This has given my old bike a new life and I get to spend more time with an old friend.

First off, welcome to the forum! Please keep us informed with your impressions of the conversion.

I'm considering converting my Trek Shift 4 MTB using that same BBS02 kit. I have other ebikes which I enjoy riding but I still occasionally ride the Trek. The conversion requires removal of the front derailleur effectively changing the drive train from a 3 X 9 to a 1 X 9. Even though some are duplicates, I really like the 27 speed gearing of the Trek. I realize the motor compensates for the loss of some gears but I would still like to be able to ride the bike without electric assist. How is the hill climbing ability of your 7000 without assist? The small 44 tooth chainring for the BBS02 kit would help but it might affect top speed. Any experience you might have on this would help.

The Trek has a 73mm bottom bracket which is the widest that works with that kit. I had to put Locktite on the nut that secures the motor to the bottom bracket and was able to get the lock ring to catch about three threads also with Locktite. It actually fit quite well.i forgot was size cassette I have but I will check it out. I am also running the 44 tooth chain ring. When I had it out for a quick test I only had it in one gear. Top speed was fine, 35mph. I haven’t hit any trails yet but when I do I’ll report back on the performance.

I have the same bike Trek 7000 Alpha ZX (white) and I am looking at the Luna BBS02 and BBHD. Do you think can provide some pictures of the wire routing, install, etc.?

Any other tips for installing on this bike?

Did you install the shifting sensor?

Thank you...
