I was just curious recently bought radmission waiting like many i guess, does everyone that has an ebike get it to a bike shop before hitting the road not one page in the owners manual that they dont mention bikeshop getting it certified by pro,i would of though i could do it myself? Let me know please if this is the case,i really dont want to pay for technical help 2 times a year like they say

It depends on how good you are with a wrench and how good of a feel you have for bikes. If you have ridden alot in the past and have the capability to change your own motor oil in your car, I would say you are good to go as your own setup mechanic. Watch a few Youtube videos on unboxing and setup and ride it like you stole it...

I shouldn't have a problem all the info is available and more its just that rad mentions going and see a pro on every page in thier manual lollll, i really like to tinker and got plenty of tools ,i asked rad for stores that know they v already serviced their bikes but their hours away lollll i guess rad has to cover their butts by saying ofthen 😂its hard to believe in a city like Montreal we lost quit a few bikeshops because gouv said in the beginning repair shops weren't essential ,the few that survived are booked solid or they laugh because they sell thier own and dont wanna bother with other brands ,so be it im keeping my mission ,,,maybe next year i spring for their newer rads👍🚴 happy trails buddy

I find few similarities of being a bicycle mechanic and being able to remove a drain plug and unscrew an oil filter on a car. Not sure about all the Rad Power bikes, but some low end eBikes still have free ball bearings on pedals and axles. Also adjust and centering the manual disc brakes takes some technique and skills. Same goes for adjusting the play on the steerer bearings and adjusting the derailleur. There is also a need for special wrenches for the bearing adjustments.

I hear ya Rich but my point is that if you have the capabiltiy of changing your own motor oil, you probably would be able to watch a youtube video and adjust your brakes or derailleur. No offense to car mechanics or the guys down at Jiffy Lube :)

There's never a better time than the present to learn new skills! I got a stand so I could work on my bike, but it's too heavy for me to get onto the stand. Ooops. Off to my local mechanic. Fortunately, we have a neighborhood bike tech who works out of his garage and makes it very easy to get things done when we need them. :)

The bigger deal, is wanting to learn in my experience. And having a place out of the weather where you can do the work. From there, it's not that hard to teach yourself by just asking questions. We all started somewhere....

Most stuff not that hard - though there WILL be some challenges. Still, patience and perseverance will always win.

Patience is the word! Thks for your info, Rad is now shipping in dec for next mission dates i hope its for new clients 🤣😂and not problems with those who ordered already 😭 ??

Test ride it gingerly at first. Spin the wheels, do you see any wobble? Eyeball the tires, see any bulges? Ride the bike, test the brakes together. Then test them independently at speed. Do the pedals and cranks feel straight? (then shift in and out of every gear and see if they go smoothly--does not apply to radmission) If you don't see anything wrong then you don't need a bike shop tuneup, yet.

Thks for info 😊👍 temperature 🌡️ will be dropping below freezing point i dought i will see a bike before it snows,it will be parked in my living room untill spring ill have plenty on time to check and recheck bolts and screws 😂🤓

There's not much on an ebike that someone that is mechanically inclined can't handle if as mentioned before you approach it with patience and a little common sense. Sure there will be a learning curve but if you plan on doing your own maintenance, there's no better time to start than the beginning. Any bike delivered (and even some purchased at a bike shop) should be given the once over for loose bolts and fine tuning of brakes and shifters.
They recommend taking it to a bike shop to release themselves from liability, not because the kids working at the bike can do a better job. 🙃

Meanwhile were all waiting for this radmission i dought it will be hard to maintain, looking to hear from the first owners to get thiers , its in stock on their site for the first time ever lolllll 😂🤓🤭maybe the boat🚢 finally got here 👍

Become your very own bike technician by going to Youtube and look at every video put up by Park Tools. Then, subscribe to that channel. Nobody makes a better presentation then Park Tool's Calvin Jones. They pretty much cover every aspect of your ebike except the drive system, but again, Youtube will be your friend and let's face it, there will be only so much us ebike owners will be able to fix on the ebike drive system. Everything else though, can be done for the most part by folks like you and I.

Totally agree Towpath. I gave my son the Lectric XP and turned him loose with Jerimiah McIntosh and SED vids and he has converted the handlebars and is doing the front forks this as soon as the new headset shows up. He just graduated college and is a baseball player that has never turned a wrench. The beauty of the internet!

Just a thought. Maybe give the new bike assembly/check out your best shot and see what happens? If it all works out, which is more than likely, fine. You've learned something new and received the self satisfaction of a job well done. If the project gets sideways on you, and RAD can't figure out what's going on over the phone or via pictures (not the first time they've had to do this), THEN take it to an LBS and let RAD pay them to fix it!

You'll be fine. Stop worrying about it....

Hicks brings up a great point that I think he has made before and I feel needs repeating. We all need to stop worrying about our battery life, our flat rear tires, our shift sensor not working properly etc and just get on the darn bikes and ride. When they break we will fix them and everything will be fine. Oh, that feels better already. Exhale!!

Yes, exactly! If you want a challenge while waiting for that bike, book yourself a room near a trail with great ride reports!
