Bike manufacturers, and Product Liability Insurance.

Hello e-bike community, I have a question that's kind of in line with the warranty question that I saw in an earlier post. How do you know which companies have product liability insurance and is that a reflection on the quality of the product they make? I assume bargain brands like Natko selling on Amazon must, is common that companies don't have this coverage? My LBS warned me off a brand reviewed by EBR that I was shocked to hear does not.

Any insights would be great.

Cheers!!

A common fear mongering technique.

Most companies (Rad Power, Juiced, Trek, Giant, Specialized, Haibike, Raleigh) etc. do carry product liability insurance. Basically, anyone who sells in large volume and has a decent presence on the market will carry. It is a common business practice. They would go bankrupt in an unforeseen event if they don't carry it.

Chinese vendors on Amazon or eBay or brands that do not have a US warehouse, may be trying to skirt the laws and sometimes do not carry liability insurance.

More than the product liability part of it, any serious company will have dealers to support their products.
If you are able to look at the product, test them a bit, it shows a lot. It tells you more about the company and how they operate, how they support their products.

All major manufactuers (trek, giant, specialized etc) do carry this liability insurance but how it matters to the end user is a very convoluted. If you have a great connection with your dealer then anytime you bring in your bike, they know you and help you get back on the road.

Thanks Ravi, the LBS is telling me he does not carry products that do not have product liability/or that are not purchased from a US entity because liability would fall to his shop which was not a big deal when he was small but as an established business it a concern for him and he wants his customers to have the peace of him that if something did happen they could be taken care of... Hype?
