Battery to controller connection

I have a 2019 rad power mini step thru.
I want to use its battery alternately on a DIY ebike project without using the rad battery cradle.
Can I connect pos & neg battery terminals directly to a DIY controller?
Is there an adapter pigtail that plugs into the rad battery for this?
How do you recommend I do this?
