Battery question

Hello all, this is my first post. I am seriously considering an ODK in order to finally get rid of my car and all of its associated costs. Trouble is, I live in mid-Michigan a winter paradise if there is such a thing. I'm worried about what the cold will do to the battery. My question is would removing the battery when say I get to a grocery store or theater, taking it inside, and re-installing it before riding home make sense? Would the transition from cold, to warm, to cold, and back to warm upon returning home result in a whole new set of problems for the battery.? I'm thinking of condensation here, there may be other problems too. I'm fairly mechanical minded, so I think removal and re-installation of the battery would be easy for me. I am, however, ignorant of the characteristics of these new batteries and how to properly care for them. Thank you in advance for any advise you might be able to provide. Also, if I am just being too much of a worry wart, you will not be hurting my feelings by saying so.

Your concern about cold batteries is valid, and the problem with cold weather and batteries are these:
Your range can be reduced by as much as 40% in cold weather. So taking your battery inside is a good idea, even though it will get chilled when u use it. Buy a battery that is oversized for your needs.
You should never charge a battery if it is below 40F or 5C.. You can trickle charge it above 32F, assuming you have a lithium battery charger with that feature.
Exposing batteries to wide temperature swings will eat into battery life as well.. Not much you can do about that..
All that plastic gets brittle in cold weather, so be careful with it.. If you can bring the entire bike inside even better!
