Bakcou vs Quietkat

I'm shopping for an ebike for offroad hill climbing and am between the Bakcou Mule or Storm and the Quietkat Ridgerunner. Anybody have experience with these companies?

I was looking at both of those bikes but settled on the M2S Allterrain Ultramax. It's direct to consumer with quite a bit better specs than either of the 2 mentioned. It's also about 1/2 the price... If you can adjust shifting and install a front wheel you may want to check direct to consumer bikes. I tried one of the bikes brands mentioned and although it was fine, the dealer knew next to nothing about bikes so I would have been on my own or at the mercy of an LBS anyway.

As for hill climbing , I can attest to the fact that mine has performed very well for me on snowmobile trails and groomed MTB trails. As far as hills on hard ground, they are not even noticed. I moved my throttle out of the way and plan to remove it soon. Just not useful for me. I tried it in my neighborhood on the flats and got up to 30 mph on 4.5" tires inflated to 4 lbs (for snow usage) very quickly before I shut it down. Not too confidence inspiring on tires set up like that!

Disclaimer: I am a former bike racer, weigh 150lbs, mid 60's with severe heart and moderate cancer issues. So far, I put over 150 miles on mine in a bit more than 2 weeks mostly on wet or packed snow.

Both Bakcou and Quietkat are decent but ridiculously overpriced Chinese bikes with Bafang Ultra motors marketed to hunters with more money than shop smarts. The component specs are decent but nothing great, similar to an entry level Frey.

You can buy direct from Frey, upgrade to whatever spec, options, color, etc. you want and save a bunch, but it will take time, up to 2 months and you'll pay $500+ for shipping.

Hunter starts at $2K

FF1 starts at $2700

Frey offers a newer Fat FS 2.0 but I don't see it on their site yet. Lots of other options if you don't want a fat tire.

It's pretty simple, just email [email protected] with what you're looking for and they will provide a quote. They are unusually busy at the moment so be patient. Lots of good threads on ES about Frey. Frey is the only seller on alibaba I would buy from (there are many Frey imitators on alibaba, some who even market the name Frey on their offerings so don't be fooled).

If you don't want to order from Frey here is a budget option with fat tire and full racks for $2295 shipped after coupon:

Also, as noted above, M2S offers some reasonably priced Ultra offerings. Just keep in mind they charge extra for shipping. For example the FS is pricing currently at $3399 in cart + $275 shipping and similarly for the HT pricing in cart at $2599 + $275.

Rize sells the RX for $2599:

Lots of other Ultra options mentioned here:

I bought a M2S All Terrain Ultra HT a few weeks ago. Have put over 50 miles on it so far in the wooded mountains of Pennsylvania. I bought it mainly for hunting. I have climbed some pretty impressive dirt inclines with it and would call it a hill climbing beast.

You might call M2S to see if there are other discounts...hint.

I am over 200 miles on my All Terrain Ultra HT, and waiting for my 27.5" wheel set with 2.2" tires to arrive. Those 4.5" tires are amazing on snow and soft ground run at less than 5lbs or so but are loud and annoying on hard ground. Will be nice to have summer tires and hunting/snow tires.

One thing to check out regardless of what brand is the total battery capacity. The big Ultramax motors can use a lot power if you are heavy on the throttle or run high PAS so make sure you have a 48 or 52 volt with 19-20 Ahr rating.
