I just got a Bolton Foxbat and ran into a problem while trying to raise the handlebar on it. I'm not especially tall, but the current stem position causes a lot of pain in my hands and reaching forward caused an issue in my left shoulder to spasm right up. So I got an adjustable stem kit as well as a riser to bring the handle up and back. I tried to post this to Bolton Ebikes but I think the request crashed their site; it went down after I passed the Captcha and submitted it. So I figured I'd ask on the forums while I have some time this weekend to troubleshoot.
The Bolton Foxbat is uses a 1000W Bafang mid-drive motor. The display is the compact 500c display.
The adjustable stem went on fine, but I got into problems when I tried to combine that with a riser. The controller display unit would not turn on. It flickers black and ultimately does nothing. Right now, I have the battery removed to see if it drains out the controller and resets something, but previous attempts with removing the battery for 60 seconds didn't do anything.
My first thought has to do with cables and wires. The handlebar is currently near the full reach of the front brake cable, with the rear brake cable being the next connector that is getting pulled by this. I haven't adjusted the setup completely yet so I will probably lower it, but the brakes do work in this configuration. The connectors all wrap around the left of the stem and turning to the right--hence pull the connectors--doesn't cause any issues, so I believe I have enough slack.
All other cables and connectors still have slack. While making the adjustment, I fixed the handlebar at the fork while I was messing with the stem and it didn't fall to the ground. I don't think any connector was suddenly pulled. all connectors at the stem look fully connected and nothing improved when I further pushed them together.
The connectors at the bottom around the controller also look okay but they are so tightly packed that I can't do anything with them unless I cut the wire wraps. I didn't want to go that far before asking; I anticipate it being a real challenge to get them all packed in there again.
Is there anything I should particularly test? I don't have much for specialty bike tools but I have plenty of socket wrenches, allen keys, and a multimeter.
