Bafang brake sensor

Hi guys. I'm planning on installing a bafang diy kit to my drop bar gravel bike. I'm not going to install the throttle. So I was wondering if using a gear sensor inplace of the the break sensor would be safe enough to stop the motor seeing that there will be no throttle in use. Thanks in advance.

This could cause some controversy but I do not install brake levers. I also do not install throttles. You could use the magnetic type for hydraulic if you wanted on a dropbar. I recall that the gear sensor will not work in the place of a brake sensor. It is momentary, the action is different and the cables are of a different diameter.

why would you use gear sensor for your brake?

there are motor inhibitor sensor for brakes, if you didin't know.
They even have one for both mechanical and hydraulic levers.

It looks like will be a challenge getting the brake sensors to fit properly on my bike so I was hoping this would be a good solution.

Brake cutoffs make sense on a throttle bike with a front hub-drive. A PAS only bike with a mid-drive does not need them, just don't pedal and brake at the same time as with an acoustic (regular) bike. Fewer wires look cleaner too.

Those brake cutoff sensors are perfect. There is a little smoothing lag between when you stop pedaling and this motor stops giving power, otherwise it would be too jerky.

The stock setting is 250ms...which isn't very long at all, but it is noticeable.
Depending on which motor you plan on using it can be set lower such as on the BBSHD. But the BBS02B acts glitchie if you drop it below 200ms so most just leave it stock

I'm going with the bbshd. What is a safe setting to set it to?

I'm not positive as I don't have an HD.. but I do believe that I read that the HD will accept a value of 5 (corrected)
To verify that shouldn't be too difficult to track down

As I asked you, what kind of brake do you have?

Those won't work if you have hydraulic.

That cutoff sensor is made for cable activated mechanical disc brakes, V-brakes, etc.

I have mechanical disc breaks with the built in shifters

And one last question do I need a special chain?
