Since getting my Evelo Aurora I have been riding in the manual mode turning the shifter when needed and just kind of forgot about the electronic side of things got so used to it. Yesterday was a beautiful 65 degree sunny day here on the Oregon coast so decided to head out and get some of the winter dust off. When I started out in my usual level 1 assist and was cruising along at an easy 18 mph I realized I never push the silver auto button on the hub control so just gave it a try. As I was rolling along didn't notice any difference and then realized I was getting assistance because I had begun a grade of just a few percent. Wow it was a weird feeling , the bike just senses any change in grade and automatically puts in assist with no input from me. I just keep the same cadence and it does it's thing.
Being fairly new to the E bike thing I find this amazing! When I got the bike I read about it and got the upgraded model to 750W and the auto hub etc. thinking if I needed it I 'd have it but most likely wouldn't. Well I was wrong on that point it's great. When I leave my subdivision gates and hit the road only 50 ft or so out the gates is a pretty substantial hill, about 14% and a quarter mile long. Most if not all bikes I see are walking up the grade, with the exception of the barely moving and swinging side to side mega riders all decked out. I went up sitting on the saddle with not a tremendous amount of effort. I just put the auto in it's max setting. I tried going up with the bike turned off just to see if I could do it, NO WAY! didn't even make it 1/4 of the hill, Killer!
So people going by in cars think I am Superman, LOL, wow that old dude is in shape! If they only knew, I am really loving this E bike thing, still get exercise but not so much that I don't ride from fatigue. A 10 mile ride to the store and back is fun and I feel great when I get back.
I don't know much about how this hub works really and don't much care other than the fact it does, but I can only imagine the E bikes in the next few years and what they will be able to do. This stuff sure is fun!!!!
