This is my first time in the Forum so I apologise if I’m posting in the wrong place. I’m about to go mad trying to pair my Orbea Gain with the smartbike app. It just suddenly stopped pairing. I used the new app from the day it replaced Ebikemotion and it worked ok. I’ve tried everything in my iPhone settings, deleting and reinstalling the app and after over 2 hours of failed attempts, I’m hoping someone out there has had this experience and knows how to get the right app support to fix this. Just another example of a big company swallowing up a small one and bringing “improvements “ to a system that worked fine until they took over.

I feel for you. I've had the same experiences with "My Smart Bike" on my Orbea Gian. Only works 50% of the time. The other times I have to re-link or delete and re-install. In two years of using ebikemotion, I never had a problem.

<<<<<<<<<<<What do these things do?
I just throw a leg over the bike and ride so I don't know

Ok so I have ridden 2x Orbea d50 and m20 x35 for 12000 miles over 27 months mine connects every single time without an issues on both bikes on ebike motion app and the replacement my bike app and I now have a new Scott Eride x20 and again connects without issue
Also pulsa one connect without issue all 3 bikes
But app functionality is poor with x20 a known issue bringing a unfinished product to market
Who would do such a thing hmmmm
So as you can tell mine works perfectly
So what is different for me and you
Can you give me as much details as possible your model bike year is it ant and lev compatible give me the year I’ll tell you as 2019 and 2020 on is different
how you connect, switch bike on first then app connect this type of thing
I assume it’s a x35 my think orbea doing x20 yet
Do you have a pulsa one
Is your firmware up to date
Does the bike Iwoc flash blue when you open app
Again as much detail
I am a electronic engineer for over 45 years so I know how the motor and battery and the drive controller work how the system works
The firmware update is important but mine has work with all different firmware
So give me the info and I’ll try to help

I have a Ribble with the x35 system and a PulsarOne controller. The PulsarOne works and stays paired to the bike but is unreliable when changing assist levels, it quite often refuses to go up or down and I have to resort to the button. These reliability problems are apparently down to out of date firmware and I'm currently buying the Mahle GCU cable to update this myself as Ribble after sales service is hopeless sand expensive. The files and instructions on how to update are on the Mahle website. I find the app is of limited use unless you want to check your bike details/firmware etc or change motor mapping. It's a very clumsy implementation IMHO. The PulsarOne provides all the information I need and there are many other, better apps out there for mapping rides (Komoot/Maverick/Alltrails/etc)

My wife's Ribble regularly gets the pink flashing light (this is the 193 overvoltage error) after charging up to 100% and the app reports that the bike needs a firmware update. To cure this we usually just switch the bike on and ride it for a bit and it goes away or put the bike in a work stand and spin the pedals. It also happens sometimes when she's using the Range extender and it runs out of juice and switches off. This 'fault' is supposed to be fixed by updating to the latest firmware so fingers crossed.

Local bike shops selling Orbea should be able to update firmware for you, they have the GCU cable supplied free by Mahle. It might cost you though if you are out of warranty, a shop near to me charges £45 for updating firmware which I think is a bit much! That's why I'm buying the cable.
