APPLE AIRTAGS THE NEW BIKE LOJACK?

At minute 8:15 the gal-theif uses her phone to scan the Airtag and mentions she has the ability to disable it. This feature has me concerned….
Still waiting for wife to say yes. Engraving is 4 characters (??) max. Best to use a single emoji…(IDK!)

go with an emoji for sure :D

just got mine.

I decided to put a specific “code” on mine so they will be less likely to get them mixed up with others that have the same emojis. I’ve used a couple of mine to locate keys already.

WOW, mine came and I'm impressed!
The only disappointments are the key fobs being priced higher than the AirTag!
That’s why I bought the Belkin AT key ring holders. Even those were $12 apiece! Don’t get the white ones tho as they get dirty real fast!

Found a compartment under the bottom bracket of my Salsa, non electric. It is for routing wires and hiding weed. Perfect for an AirTag with the speaker removed.

this is a easier way
Slightly easier install perhaps, but the reflector is no obstacle for the above average tweaker. Popping open the stem is a piece of cake. Just four bolts. From my perspective, there is no difference in difficulty. They are both elementary.

I have one of those tail lights on order. I won’t be using it. Same philosophy as LoJack, if the thief can find the alarm they will disable it. If you’re not mechanically minded, then the reflector is great. (But really, the stem could not be simpler.)

Any AirTag is better than no AirTag. Have you installed the reflector holder?

they are not going to think a reflector is anything. its easy to change the battery too having to take the bars off to get to it is a pain. ya its hidden but it is also hidden to you.

When the AirTag notifies the thief that he is being followed, he will be able to find the AirTag immediately with an iPhone or Android or his ears. Prying off the reflector is easy. Removing an AirTag hidden inside the stem while on the side of a road is another thing. They will either leave my bike to find easier prey, or I will find them first.

There are two possible notifications. The "AirTag Found Moving With You" message is separate from the AirTag beeping notification. Remove the speaker to disable the beeping. If you don't, then you'll find your reflector on the side of the road, beeping.

"When moved, any AirTag separated for a period of time from the person who registered it will make a sound to alert those nearby. If you find an AirTag after hearing it make a sound, you can use any device that has NFC, such as an iPhone or Android phone, to see if its owner marked it as lost and help return it."

Apple is updating the AirTag to discourage stalking. It will beep sooner, notify sooner. This discourages its use for theft recovery. I'm afraid the reflector, and the under seat holder, and the under waterbottle holder, are not going to cut it.

I do understand that for some "it is a pain" to install and maintain AirTags effectively for this purpose, but some things, to me, are worth it. Its a personal judgment call.

Or worse yet, stuck to the bumper of a UPS delivery van.

Nothing is safe from the Phd level thieves. Decades of study and perfecting their craft leaves us with feeble attempts and being a victim of a skilled thief.

Found a perfect spot on our Specialized Como’s for the AirTags. Three Allen head screws to remove the lower motor cover and slip it under the cables with a piece of Gorilla tape to keep it from sliding around

I finally received my set of four AirTags and I muted two to install on our bikes. I found many videos on YouTube on how to open and mute an AirTag, but I've come up with a less destructive way to open an AirTag without breaking any of the tabs that hold it together, so no need to glue it back together.

I'm trying to get to 1,000 subscribers, so please subscribe if you find the video helpful.

Thanks!

Better way to open an AirTag.
