I own two Trek e bikes, XM700+. One was bought in Oct 2016, and the other in Feb 2017. They came with "400" batteries. I have purchased a 2nd battery for each bike, a "500" battery. My "Display" and "Control Button" are Intuvia brand.
Both bikes have this very annoying problem and I'm writing to see if anyone else has had the same problem, and if you were to identify a permanent solution.
Problem: The "Control Button" (regulating motor speed) becomes non-responsive. I'm referring to the little black box, not the computer display. Thus, if the motor had been off, and I press the control button, the motor stays off!!! If the motor had been in "sport", it will stay in "sport".
This problem has been temporarily solved many times. I'll bring the bike into the bike shop. They'll hook the bike up to "diagnostics", and will download software. This has always fixed the problem, temporarily, for no obvious reason. The bike shop will tell me at that point, that "everything checks out". A week or two later, I'll have the same problem again.
I'm in the process of replacing the control buttons on both bikes. I'm not totally confident that this will fix the problem. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid, but I have this nagging suspicion that the problem won't get permanently fixed until all the electronics on the bike get replaced. One reason I say this is that I have had other electronic problems -- mainly the "display" going dark all of a sudden for no apparent reason, requiring me to bring the bike back to the shop so that they can run diagnostics.
I should add that I absolutely love the bike otherwise. It's super fast (max speed 28 MPH) and great fun. It makes me feel like a kid again. It's not as heavy as some of the other ebikes that I've seen.
