Announced: Yamaha Civante - 28mph

Wow, what's not to like! This is exactly what I want - an e-road bike which isn't trying to disguise itself as an acoustic with a small battery within the downtube and a weak little motor. And not strangled with a 15-20mph pedal assist restriction. 70Nm and 500 watt hour battery! And reasonable 35c tires for comfort and efficiency on the road, and it won't get confused as a gravel bike. Even a reasonable MSRP.

Thanks for posting this. One of these may end up in my fleet as well!

So this is why the Speedbox I installed in my Urban Rush doesn’t work. 🙃

Looks like I need to trade in my Wabash

Certainly, the new Yamaha e-bike will be equipped with a throttle. Not for the European customers for sure

P.S. I don't know what's so fascinating about the new Yamaha e-bike. It's gonna be heavy, with the powerful motor and a large battery. A road bike is expected to be lightweight. That's why the Creo SL was created.

There's no throttle on the US edition (or for any other country I bet) Its a fitness/commuter bike, and 43 pounds ain't bad for a class 3.

For those of us who ride and like Yamaha bikes this looks like a great product and I'm glad they've entered the class 3 category.

No, it won't have a throttle - just a straight California/U.S. Class 3 speed pedelec.

43 pound weight - not too bad. Especially with a real motor and battery. My Raleigh Tamland iE weighs in at 47# and with the big battery and Brose motor it by no means feels heavy. In fact it is the most efficient e-bike I have ever ridden. And that is with 47c gravel capable tires.

Why are they still selling Urban Rush.. ? For $100 difference, I think people would just pick the Civante.
For sure. That’s the way I’d go. But I got really lucky on pricing for my Urban Rush as it was a demo and year end close out.

Are there any step-through bikes, or is it just a big "nah" from Yamaha?

Yamaha USA seems to be driven by go-go fitness racer boys .
I’d also like to see a step-thru commuter And a Yamaha Japan inspired mamachari .

Your being to harsh e-boy !
Yamaha USA is probably being driven by market research and local market conditions .

It seems like bike companies are going in two directions when it comes to road ebikes. The first light/low power/small battery ebikes, like the Creo is aimed at one type of rider and the second heavier/more powerful/bigger battery ebikes, like this Civante is aimed at another type.

Along with my ebike, I also ride two light, carbon road bikes. If I had to choose between the Aluminum Creo (33 pounds) and the Civante (43 pounds) I'd probably go with the Civante.
I've ridden the Creo and for me it felt underpowered. I couldn't see much of a reason to buy it over my 18 pound road bike.

Great price@3399$ and Great warranty-3 years on battery/motor/frame, Double 50/34 crankset, many positives for this product.

Only wished that the frame/battery integration could have been nicer looking. But is function over form.
Well done , Yamaha !

Trek Domane +HP is the reference nr. 1 road ebike @ 85NM , but it's 7000$. And NO 3years warranty ! No 50T chainring either.

So, which bikes are the direct competition ?

I think competition is mid-drive, 28mph, drop-bar road bikes with medium-long distance capabilities. Giant Road-E+, Giant Revel E+, Bulls Grinder Evo, Trek Domane+. Super excited about this category!

How much weight would the Civante loose if it was carbon fiber frame and fork ?
And what do you think the price would be ?
