Advice for 1st E-Bike?

Hello,

Looking for my 1st ebike. The search has been difficult since SO many models are out-of-stock. I am 48 years old, female, 5’7. I have hip and knee issues so looking for a step-thru that is comfortable to ride. Will be using it for both exercise and fun - would like power and speed as long as I can safely handle the bike. Will be used on roads and dirt paths, some small hills but mostly flat terrain. My budget is $2500 but would prefer to stay under $2k if possible.

The Biktrix Stunner LT and Evelo Aurora Hub-Drive are 2 models I’ve found that are in stock and seem to check most the boxes. I would love to know what all the experts out there recommend. I’m open to other brands/models. What advice do you have for this newbie?

Hi Heather, either of those models would be a good choice for your condition as the Bafang motors they use have a pedal cadence sensor rather than a torque sensor. This will allow you to activate the pedal assist without the proportional effort required by a torque sensor, and the PAS level you select controls the power and speed. So you would use the throttle to get going then, shifting gears, pedal as much as feels comfortable and raise the PAS level if you need to go faster or up hill. If you feel tired or in pain you have the throttle to keep going. Another comparable model is the Magnum Low Rider

I guarantee you that, within the first 5 days of riding this beast, you will a). be wearing a leather aviator helmet. b). using old style motorcycle googles (instead of regular sunglasses) c). own/wear at least 3 different skull caps, d). will blacken out at least one front tooth (because you bad.. you bad.), e). have a stogie dangling from the corner of your mouth. and f). you will be having so much fun that you'll Live to Ride.. Oh, it's true, it's true..
Also, opt for the 21ah battery.. For $200 more, you will get 30% more battery-- you cannot go wrong.

Take a look at this step-thru bike... it may suit your needs and is priced at $1,800.
It checks a lot of boxes with a mid-drive motor, hydraulic brakes, and suspension fork.

I don't know what the requested info is. I'm quite sure that the M2S website will provide it.. All I know it that I currently own a 2018 M2S (brand) KUSH (model) dual suspension 750W rear hub Fat Tire Ebike 48v/16ah (13,000+ miles) AND a 2019 M2S (brand)R750 (model) 750W rear hub Fat Tire Ebike-- also 48v/16ah (5,000+ miles). And believe me when I say that both of these puppies can/will/do "haul da mail"-- especially when set at Class 3 (28mph throttle-only) mode-- the ONLY way to go for any stateside ebike. I would own a 3rd model (a 2020 year model) from this company (M2s), but I had specific requirements for my newest toy and had to buy from another ebike company -- I will post an initial review on it in the next few days.
As far as my M2S ebikes: it is an absolute love affair. I am 69 years old, going on 8 years old when I'm on my marvelous toyz. I mount either one of these beasts and go for 50+ mile bike rides every dang day. I do not recommend them lightly. Staple yer underwear onto the seat/saddle or else those garments will be ripped right off yer tiny heinie.
I believe that this lady just wants to have a whole lot of fun on an ebike AND to NOT spend copious amounts of $$$ to do so.. As for my suggestion: it can be delivered to your front door in 3 weeks for $2,200 (including shipping)-- a savings of over $400 compared to the Stunner 48v/21ah fat tire ebike-- even with it's "free" shipping.. And lady, you really do want that larger (21ah) battery-- trust me on this. Also, go over to the M2S forum to see how danged "possessed" I am by these pesky (in a VERY good way) varmit M2S ebikes. Well, gotta go order some pizza pies..

I now have 216 miles on it. I hope to add another 200 by Friday (today is Sunday). I am still in the "ShakeDown" phase of figuring this ebike out. I will post an evaluation soon, too -- I currently have 14 pages typed out (large fonts, though).
As you can see by my attached photo's, I like to personalize my toyz-- the two M2S fat tire ebikes and the Xtreme Sedona ebike look just like this on the handlebar/front end area. Also, check out the decal on the seat tube (in the 1st photo)..
And yes, that is a carbon fiber seat/saddle-- no cushioning at all. I do a lot of 50+ milers on this seat. Buns of extruded aluminum (as opposed to steel).
