a simple but surprisingly effective idea!

nice article about the huge safety improvement that this relatively small change has made. i’ve done this climb a few times (not on an e-bike) and when properly placed these little turnouts save drivers a lot of time and save cyclists a lot of risk!

with 23 collisions a year prior, and an 80% reduction since installation, this little project will save over 350+ accidents over 20 years. the cost benefit ratio is amazing, not to mention actual lives saved.

for the truly wonky this paper goes into more detail, including a scientific (lol) analysis of what happens when motorists pass cyclists 😂

Looks like a Ride 1 Up Gravelster?

Just because I'm an old fuddy dead who thinks no hands is very unsafe. I decided to do some looking, there are quite a few states that can cite you for not having at least one hand on the handle bar, some states that will site you for reckless operation. Just putting it out there. But have fun however you want to have fun
