Hi all, just become an owner of a new Voltbike Mariner ST. I upgrade the display to 860c and accessed the advanced settings after password. But I cannot find the option 'start mode' which allow eco/power mode when accelerate from stop. I find the bike very sluggish and rather dangerous because of the delay in acceleration from stop and reaccelerate after slowing. Please help. TIA.

I have attached pictures of advance settings of my bike, my bike's software version, and older version of advance settings with start mode. Also can anyone help explain what 'poles in motor' and 'start after poles' number I should choose to get the best performance? and what does 'clockwise start' do. Appreciated;

I've got a Voltbike Outback with the same display and it doesn't appear to offer any adjustment for the power and rate of acceleration.

I find my ebike to be rather gutless and slow to get moving as well.

'poles in motor' is the number of magnets that are in the motor that are monitored by a hal sensor.

I'm pretty sure that our BAFANG motors have 6 magnets in the motor, so every rotation of the wheel has 6 pulses to let the display/controller know how fast the wheel is turning.

'start after poles' has a choice of 5, 8, or 12 , so either 5, 8, or 12 pulses need to be detected before the motor kicks in and you start getting power.

A setting of 5 will be the quickest response time, but that's still almost a complete revolution of the cranks before the power kicks in.

The clockwise start means that your pedals need to be rotating forward for the power to turn on and don't activate if you are pedaling backwards.
Some ebikes have the PAS sensor on the opposite crank where the rotation is reversed.

EDIT: 'start after poles' refers to the number of magnets on the PAS sensor.

I don't know how many magnets are on the PAS sensor, but it's probably 12 because having almost a full rotation of the crank before power is applied is too much, so choosing 5 would be just under half a rotation.

There is a crank rotation delay in case you bump the pedals while stopped, they don't want the ebike powering up by accident.

I always have my brake applied while stopped. That kills the motor (brake switches) and keep the bike from rolling.

Coincidencidentally, I just found out yesterday that my old e-bike that I've had for over ten years has the PAS sensor connected backwards.

The PAS sensor never worked and I just used the throttle.
I spun the pedals backwards yesterday, and the bike finally powered up. 😂
