I just purchased my first e bike. The description on the bike when I purchased it was 35v 10.4ah battery but when I received the bike the battery was 48v 10.4 ah. Before the bike arrived I purchased on Ebay a 36v 10.4ah battery, can I use it with my bike as a back up battery without it damaging any components? Thank you for the help.

I wouldn't. I'd try to return it.

I know that 48V to 52V is safe because the voltage is so close, 99% of 48V controller can handle 52V just fine.

I am not sure about 36V to 48V, that's quite a jump.

That said, I know Luna Cycle sells 48V battery for 36V ebikes, they call it "hot rod" battery.

However, they do give you a big warning sign to "hot rod at your own risk"
It's not going from 36vto 48v . its switching the 48v battery to a 36v.

Oh if that's the case, I'd return it.

Most 48V ebike displays have safety mechanism not to go below 40V (some are 41V) to protect the battery.

I believe the voltage for 36V is 42V at max charge. Which means, you can only use it for very short time and your display will think your battery is dead.
Thank you very much
