I’m considering (2) different brands of E- bikes for purchase in a couple months. One -the (Lectric XP 3.0 folding, the other - the Adventon Sinch Folding model) the first comes w/ 3” wide x 20” tires, and the second w/4” x 20” tires. I realize bigger tire = more drag but better in deep sand. Other than that what are the advantages and disadvantages of each size/ width or tires. Appreciate feed back from those w /20” wheels as I know things are different w/ bigger wheels. Thanks

had my fill of the fatties,i had to redo a 26x4 bike(stator spin out) went to 26x3 and a dd motor sold it back to a friend,he really liked my upgrades, about the only upgrades i do these days are racks, tires, seats and suspension seatposts.

I really haven't looked; but, 20X3" seems to be a less common size compared to 20X4"? I would double-check if you want to add accessories or upgrades/mods like tire liners/inserts, tubes/tubeless, upgraded to different paved road/knobby off-road tires, etc... I have a 26X4" and 26X4.8" ebikes and noticed the fatter tires are part of the suspension. I feel less road imperfections compared to 2.3" or 700X40C bikes. The fatter tires feel smoother and I can hit at a faster speed as I transition over different terrain like street-to-curb, washboard trails, uneven sidewalk cracks, pot holes, sandy patches, etc.. Unless you are in deep sand, heavy weight on rear, or have the PSI low, the road contact patch on the 20X3 and 20X4 will be very similar down the central part of tread.

I'm now avoiding 4" wide tires. I go a bit fast sometimes and the 4" wide tires make the ebike handle sloppy. I found my happy size at 3" now. Big enough to absorb most road imperfections but small enough to get a feel of the road. This opinion is on a 20" wheel. I've never ridden a 26" or larger fat tire bike so I have no opinion on them. Anyways, if you don't go blasting fast I think a 4" does ride a bit better as far as soaking up bumps. All these ebikes in this wheel size range are heavy so that's really not an issue, unless you have to lift them on a regular basis. The Aventon Sinch is a nice bike.
