I got a chance to get out and ride over the weekend with the turbo basket and tailwind panniers. They fit perfectly and I had no problems carrying roughly 60 pounds of groceries between the basket and panniers.

That basket sure looks like it would be handy.

Seems like the Tailwind panniers get favorable reviews from what I’ve read.

You happy with yours?

I have a new 2022 Vado 4.0 and just ordered the MIK adapter for the basket. I am thinking about the Tailwind Panniers as well. Any negatives about them?

If the Tailwind is mounted as it is in the picture, I constantly hit it with my heel while pedalling. I reverted the pannier (the flat part forward) and the issue disappeared. The pannier even looks reasonable in this position.

The mounting position is fully adjustable fore and aft by several inches. I wear a size 45 shoe and my heels miss my Tailwind panniers by a mile.

I wear shoe size 47. Even with the most rearwards setup, I experienced heel strikes. It all stopped when I installed the pannier in the reverse position. Note: I'm talking Vado SL 4 EQ size M.
As TYJ said, the Tailwind is of a dual nature. It is stiff enough to just let it stand on the ground, and flexible enough to squeeze some more stuff into it when necessary. The only thing I am not really fond of is difficult access to the pannier inside: you actually cannot see what is inside (after unzipping the pannier)!

Hmmm… our shoe sizes are only 2.7 cm different, however, I have a Vado SL 5.0 EQ size L…. maybe that’s the difference??? I don’t come close to heel strikes on the Tailwind panniers set up to the most rearward set up.

I spent some time adjusting all of the parameters (3 points of contact to the rack) of the panniers rearward. But once everything was adjusted… no issues at all.

probably more to do with foot/pedal position or the way the rack is installed, rather than the frame size. all Vado SLs (actually pretty much all specialized bikes AFAIK?) have the same chainstay dimension within one frame type. otherwise they’d all need different length chains, which they don’t, and tire clearance would vary, which it also doesn’t by much.

Guys,
Let me tell you I'm irritated. I thought that perhaps I did something wrong with the Tailwind pannier before. So I used the screwdriver again, and moved the pannier onto the right side of the rack, with the "aero" part forward. I took the utmost care that the pannier was shifted as much rearwards as possible. Guess what? Heel strikes again!

The person in Specialized who designed the pannier apparently didn't do their homework. Heel strikes never happen to Ortlieb panniers!

As I really like to use the pannier the correct way, I eventually shifted the Tailwind onto the last rack segment (the one with the bend). It looks weird but I'm hoping for no more heel strikes anymore!

Just yesterday I altered the fit/location of my Ortlieb pannier. I did not get heel strike but it was not quite far enough back so that it engaged fully withtout bouncing around on the rack just a bit. I had not even looked what I will call the upper track adjustment for the clips. Wow, so flexible and easy. I expected to lift the locking tab and find a screw. No, just the clip and slots with small adjustments. Moved it, tried it, moved it some more. Fits much snugger now. Ortlieb seems to have thought of all adjustments - NICE.

I concur regarding heel strikes however for me i slid them back .75” and it’s fine now. After a few hundred miles and getting used to pedaling with the panniers moved back…. I moved them forward and i am not getting heel strikes. My pedaling technique/foot position changed. Not saying this refutes what is stated above just my experience.
